Did you not list those names as some indication of a bellwether change in american political ideology?
As notable historical consequences of this year's election.
or was that some sorta nose thumbing?
I think you know me better than that Bt. I came here (or there) after Bush won re-election in 2004. I don't play that way.
But winning the house just changes the names on pork checks and i think the next big thing is going to be about pork anyway. and do you think the dems will exercise restraint after being in the desert for 12 years? The GOP will run in 08 all humble and talking about lessons learned and the dems will counter with inkstains on their fingers. Not a good position to be in. Of course they could do the right thing and slash spending and reduce the deficit but i don't see pumping billlions into capturing a deliberative body without retaining the ability to reward the investors. Know what i mean?
I know what you mean. But you've seen Washington in action long enough to know how the game is played. The GOP won't learn lessons from this and the Democrats aren't cutting spending. The Democrats are going to propose popular spending proposals that corner the Republicans, so they can tie an increase in Defence spending to an increase in infrastructure spending. They will propose a minimum wage increase. The Republicans will oppose, though some may approve. The Republicans, for their part will propose the old garbage like flag burning amendment, some abortion law, and they will piss and moan about immigration.
Pork is pork and all of DeLay's K-street buddies will either find new jobs, switch sides, or straddle a fence if they can talk smoothly enough.
2008 will depend greatly on issues like Iraq, the economy, and whether scandals still continue to cause problems for either party.
