At no point did Obama present his parents as some sort of typical American family. He only told of how he has come to be different from both most American Black and American White men.

Palin is presented as a "Hockey Mom", not a "small town mayor", not as "an anti-corruption Alaska Governor".  She is a mom with what most Americans would call a larger than normal number of kids. American women are all aware that the number of children they have is a matter of their own choosing: not God's, not any church's, not even their husband.

So after she is presented as some sort of SuperMom, then it is unfair to suggest that some of her mothering skills have proven less than Super? She supports only abstinence for women prior to marriage, even though about 85% of all All American women have sex before marriage. We even have a TV series about it: "Sex and the City", and this abstinence technique has not worked with her daughter, the evidence being that her daughter have become knocked up. So abstinence has not worked for her daughter, barring the possibility of virgin birth.

And somehow, for you, it IS fair to present Palin as a perfect mother, but unfair to indicate that the evidence proves otherwise. Did Chelsea Clinton get knocked up at the age of 17? How about the Juniorbush girls?

  I don't guess you can imagine how much of Govenor Palins appeal is the identifacation with her that many feel.

  When someone feels kinship , even well founded attacks are resented first and evaluated later.

    If an attack is genuinely founded it may live past the resentment and become acceptable when eveluated , but this kinda requires that the attack isn't just plausable , but is proveable.

Cindy you're a teacher and you ought to know that a debate is about ideas.  If you have anything to say in answer to any of the ideas I voiced - - to pick one at random, that the Barracuda is a lousy mother and failure at that task indicates a poor prognosis for success at much more demanding tasks like running the nation - - than I'd be interested in hearing your criticism of my idea.

My emotions are my own God-damn business and quite frankly are entirely appropriate to the situation.  When you consider that the Republicans started an unprovoked war that has taken hundreds of thousands of innocent lives, I would think that anger is the ONLY appropriate emotion in the circumstances, nevertheless I do not have the arrogance to take issue with your placidity in the face of these atrocities.
