Obama: 'Lipstick on a pig'

Amie Parnes reports from Lebanon, VA:

Obama poked fun of McCain and Palin's new "change" mantra.

"You can put lipstick on a pig," he said as the crowd cheered. "It's still a pig."

"You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It's still gonna stink."

"We've had enough of the same old thing."

The crowd apparently took the "lipstick" line as a reference to Palin, who described the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull in a single word: "lipstick."

The better line for me.....Some people use the term "change" to advance their careers.  Others use their careers to advance change...Sarah Palin, Republican VP candidate, GOP Convention

Sen. Joseph Biden (D-DE) said Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) is “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

I think Biden should take it back after these classless comments about Sarah Palin.

===========================
He was not referring to her, he was referring to the entire McCain phony change schtick in which McCain tells the yokels, rubes, bumpkins, dolts, knucklewalkers, mouthbreathers and Cletuses to vote for him because he's "not like those OTHER Republicans" that he agreed with 95% of the time.

And, no, it matters not what you think he should do, he can't hear you and would not benefit in any way if he could.

How does the lipstick tie into that diatribe?

You can put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig is an ancient saying, far older than Palin, you or even John McCain.
You will recall that Palin referred to lipstick on a pitbull.

There is a difference between pitbulls and pigs both metaphorically and in reality.

Most people of above room temperature IQ's recognize all this.

Negative comments run about 14 to 1 with disgust for Obama saying that.

An old and well-used expression, around a long time before Obama used it, and used in its usual sense, too.  You'd have to be extremely ignorant and ill-informed to think that this phrase has no general application and must have been used with Sarah Palin in mind.  It's even the title of a hardcover book.  Just a few examples:

Urban dictionary

lipstick on a pig –
slang for when someone tries to dress something up, but is still that something. usually used on ugly broads, when they put on a skirt and some lipstick and well, they still look like the same digusting pig.

1. putting lipstick on a pig
A term used by many, generally in reference to someone who may be trying to make something or someone look appealing or attractive when it quite clearly will not work, or will only deceive the dumbest of people.

Car salesmen are generally good at "putting lipstick on a pig" because they are always selling unroadworthy buckets of shit and try and hide their shitfulness by tarting them up.
The dude in that car yard just put a body kit on that piece of shit. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig

Mikey,

No sale. But good try.

Remember this is your brilliant constitutional professor.
Precise language is seared into his soul.
His audience knew exactly what he meant and who he was referring to.

The only thing worse than utternng the classless remark will be watching him try to wriggle out of it.

<<Remember this is your brilliant constitutional professor.

Nice try yourself, BT.  Precise legal language may indeed be "seared into his soul," but he wasn't talking law at the time, now, was he?  Professorial lingo may be studded with "wherases" and "ipso factos" but even the most erudite law professors would tend to put that language aside when they're not in the classroom, or when addressing the general public and not members of the legal profession.  I don't really see Obama at the breakfast table addressing Michelle with a "whereas" at the start of every sentence and an "all of which is respectfully submitted" at the end.

<<His audience knew exactly what he meant and who he was referring to.>>

Ah, read the audience's minds, did you?  Can you let us in on how you learned that little trick?

Perception & reality get fuzzy sometimes. I believe he knew exactly what he was saying. Everyones perception is he knew what he was saying. He ain't gunna get out of this. He is stuck now.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, apparently.  I hope everyone realizes how this continues to diminish him as a Presidential candidate
