 McCain to attend 1st debate with Obama

    WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- John McCain's campaign said Friday the U.S. Republican presidential nominee will attend his first debate with Democratic opponent Barack Obama at Oxford, Mississippi on Friday night.

    McCain said Wednesday he would not attend the debate if an agreement had not been reached on a 700-billion-U.S.-dollar bailout plan for Wall Street.

    The outcome was up in the air Friday as lawmakers scrambled to agree on a plan.

    But by midday, McCain's campaign said the Republican presidential nominee believed enough progress had been made for him to travel to Mississippi to participate in the debate, set for9 p.m. Eastern Time (100 GMT Saturday) at the University of Mississippi campus in Oxford.

    "The McCain campaign is resuming all activities and the senator will travel to the debate this afternoon," it said in a statement.

    Both presidential candidates returned to Washington last Thursday to participate in talks over the bailout package.

    The debate is expected to focus on foreign policy and national security, but the economic crisis is likely to be a dominant issue as well.

    Debate planners got a big surprise when McCain called for postponing it.

    Obama's campaign had argued over the past couple of days that both attending the presidential debate and working on the bailout plan could be accomplished and the event should go on.

McCain tried to weasel out of this debate, and to cancel Palin's debate altogether, face it. Obama would have none of it, and McCain was forced to go along, be a mensch and do what he originally promised to do.

Yet Barry doesn't think it's worth going back to Washington to work on a solution. He even finds time to mock McCain for attempting to avoid what Obama has termed a coming disaster.

As far as hammering together a solution to the financial crisis, neither Obama nor McCain is required. There are 98 other senators and 435 Representatives. And their staffs. And the Fed, and its staff, and the Secretaries of Commerce and the Treasury, and THEIR staffs.

ALL Obama and McCain have to do is to vote. Anyone who can't multitask to this degree does not belong in the White House.

Is that the rationalization you're gonna stick with to explain how often Obama voted "present".  I mean, he's only 1 vote.  Hell, why is he even a senator then?  He's just 1 of 99 other senators.

If one postpone anything, and do not offer an alternate date, that is a cancellation  so far as I am concerned. There are few days left on which a VP debate could be held, after all.

Are you forgetting who makes the laws around here? Barry wasn't elected to run for president. He was elected Senator from Illinios. Do you need a job description? Obviously Barry doesn't feel he needs to do his job. Barry First.
