He will appoint judges to the federal judiciary who will strictly interpret the constitution rather than those who would stretch the constitution to mean whatever you would want it to mean.

That's bullshit. Total bullshit./ He will appoint cryptofascist assholes like Scalia and dolts like Thomas who will pursue their annoying ratwing agenda.

I'm having none of McCain. He's several steps backward from where my country needs to go. Screw him, and the horse he rode in on.

I would hope so.

I worry that Obama will appoint Justices who will ignore the letter and the spirit of the constitution to get their wonts done.

It would be like trying to play baseball with an umpire who didn't know the rules, but felt competant to make them up as needed.

The country does need strict constructionist judges , elese it may have a constitution written in smoke.

The term "Strict constructionist" judges goes back to the days when Nixon was trying to lure racists away from Wallace voters. The truth is that the rightwing wants the Court to skew judgments in favor opf corporations each and every time. It is bogus as an argument. Take the case of the woman who was discriminated against for thirty years, and could not get compensation because he did not report this violation immediately, EVEN THOUGH she had no way of knowing that she was being treated unfairly. The rightwing jerks on the Court voted to deny her her payment, and Congress did the same because of corporate greed.

Roe vs. Wade is based on the idea that the people have a right to privacy, in the event you did not know this. I WANT a right to privacy. I consider this one of my greatest rights, and I do not need some asshole like Scalia or dunce like Thomas to take it away.

Well it's shocking I know but evidently, the "report" about the meal was made up out of whole cloth.

Consider The Post's Lobster

But This is True

Correction of the day award goes to The New York Post's Page Six, which ran this item today:

The source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.

The original item, which ran on October 17th, has been scrubbed from the Post's Web site, but that doesn't mean it hasn't had an impact.

Rush Limbaugh's Web site has a transcript of the radio host reading the Page Six item and saying, "Now, the first thing about this is, if I'm the Obamas, I'm thinking, 'Who the hell called the newspaper on this?' These hotels are not supposed to say a word about what goes on in there. Trust me, they do." Mr. Limbaugh also termed the Obamas non-existent meal order "hypocrisy." (Weirdly—appropriately?—Mr. Limbaugh's transcription service renders the hotel's name 'Waldorf-Hysteria.')

Town Hall's Carol Platt Liebau wrote, "Look, I don't begrudge the Obamas their caviar and lobster. I like lobster, too (caviar? not so much). It's just that the whole mentality strikes me as typical of Democrat thinking."

It wasn't just professional talking pointers jumping on the story. This "P.U.M.A." Web site (remember "P.U.M.A."? Good times...) mocked up a fake receipt signed by Ms. Obama. A different site ran with the headline The Audacity of Michelle Obama's $447.39 Snack Tab. Here's another which noted "Obama is swimming in the $$$$" and then quipped, "What does one do with all that cash?"

This is interesting isn't it? This is a little insight into how libtards think. It's like Barry letting the cat out of the bag when he talked to Joe the Plumber. Given their way people who piss them off for one reason or another would be locked up and feed bread and water. I'm guessing those folks would be lucky. People who really piss them off could expect the Fidel Castro treatment.

If a Supreme Court can give you a new right made up by putting the constitution in a blender and pasteing together whatever they want , then they can use the same process to remove from you an old right , and how would you argue that this right was constitutionally protected? If the constution means exactly what this brotherhood declaires it to mean then it protects nothing and you are entirely dependant on the good will of this court.

Can you really depend on the Suprems to always progress in the direction you like? If BHO does poorly as president he may be followed by a serious conservative , thus I actually can be sanguine in the face of his potential incompetance , if he is worse than expected , conservatism might come back in fashion.

If you want a new right , the right way to get it enforced is through the legislature or through admendment of the constitution if it is all that important. The alternative of weakening the force and substance of the constitution by strengthening the power of interpretation makes the rights that the constitution already protects less secure and the new right protected even less since it is written in the penumbras of shadow , they have less substance than smoke.

Just because the hotel denies she was staying there doesn't mean it's not true.

I went to a hotel in Pennsylvania on Saturday for a gaming convention. I was searched by the Secret Service, and I asked who was there. I was told "House Majority Leader <Scotty something or other - a made up name>". I just went on, knowing they were trying to keep it quiet. I know who the House Majority Leader is (Steny Hoyer) because I worked on the same floor as his office once upon a time and ran into him many times. I asked at the desk, and they refused to tell me.

I did run into Sarah Palin in the hallway, though. Not literally.

Hotels never give out this kind of information. "Journalists" sometimes bribe their way in in order to get these kinds of stories. Of course the hotel would deny it after the fact.

Of course this all brings up the question of: why does it matter what Michelle Obama's culinary tastes are? Did she ever claim that she could not afford a meal of lobster and caviar? Was anyone under the impression that she and her husband have no money?

I assume that Senator McCain and his wife can order such a dinner if they please, or perhaps filet mignon is more to Cindy's taste. I have no idea, nor could I possibly care any less.

Are y'all expecting droves of people to vote for McCain now that Michelle has enjoyed some lobster and fish eggs? Will Michelle like them so much that she won't allow a tax increase on the wealthy?

On an aside, there was a time when lobster was the meal of the poor. They were considered vile and disgusting by the wealthy classes and were a cheap food source for the coastal poor. Times they have changed...

Yes but I really don't think that this story has much importance whether true or not.

Hmmmmm....

It does prove that they are not serious Muslims , .....if they are shirking Halal and eating non approved food , but this is really not important either , I bet the percent that beleive he is Muslim is less that 1% , and half of these are voteing for him anyway.

So no, I am not worried about his diet .

There was a time when chicken was considered a delicacy reserved for the upper crust and beef was best left for the lower classes...

Good point.

Still today quite a few people in Europe consider corn to be pig's food. They won't touch the stuff.

===================
My mother's favorite was corn on the cob from a farm in the Mo. River bottomlands, where we would buy 12 dozen ears and freeze them. She mentioned this to some friends she made in Yorkshire, England. They were amazed that any humans ate corn. When she came back a year of so later, they told her, "we tried that corn of the cob of yours, and we boiled it and boiled it, but he was still too hard to eat after boiling it for ten hours.

They had tried to make corn on the cob from dried feed corn.

I think with a little lye, you can make hominy from this, or grind it up for grits, but apparently fresh corn is unavailable in England.

It does not bother me what the Obamas eat. I think a president's wife would do well to avoid fur coats and thousand-dollar Jimmy Choo shoes, but so far as I am concerned, the president's family can eat anything it wants.  Well except New Guinea "Long Pig'.

It's not freshness (though fresher tastes better). Corn is grown in England, so they would be able to buy fresh corn; it's the variety that matters. What humans typically eat is "sweet corn" while what is fed to animals, and most of what is grown in Europe, is "field corn". Popcorn, BTW, is different from both of those varieties as well, it's known as "flint corn". Matter of fact, I asked a friend who lives there about it, and was told that in East Anglia, you can buy cooked corn on the cob from roadside stands (in season, of course).
