I saw Borat three weeks ago. Parts of it were very funny, parts of it were sophomoric, parts of it were gross for the sake of being gross, such as the scene where Borat catches his fat partner beating off to a picture of his beloved Pamela Anderson, and they wrestle and struggle, both of them buck naked, for a long time, their fight finally brought to a finish when they intrude on a convention of bankers.
There was no deeper meaning to Borat, other than every country, the US in particular is filled with ignorant rubes, as is shown when Borat elicits cheers from a rodeo crowd by stating that he wishes for a victory of the US over Iraq. He even gets a few cheers when he states a desire for George Bush to drink the blood of every Iraqi.
His mocking of the Star-Spangled Banner finally upsets even the most moronic of rubes in the audience.
So far as I know, when Borat crashes various venues, the crashees are unaware that he is an actor making a film rather than a real Kazakh ambassador.
The film will generate a lot of money, and a huge number of lawsuits, and therefore may be the last film of its kind. I really wanted to see "Flushed Away", because I like animation and because I was with a date and her little 9-year old girl. But the mother insisted, despite my telling her that it had been described as the grossest and most obscene thing not rated X in years. After the nude wrestling scene, she finally admitted that it might have been to gross for the kid. But she made no motion to leave.
For that and other reasons, I am not dating her anymore. I don't blame Borat, which was as it was described in the promos and reviews.
