Tech Question/Poll to BT and others
« on: February 23, 2010, 10:02:12 PM »
I continue to get viruses on my computer
not all the time...but often enough to be a pain.
maybe a bad one twice a year....minor ones every 3 months or so

I have tried MalwareBytes, AVAST, McAfee, Adaware, AVG, ect...
I do the updates, I do the scheduled scans, ect
and yeah they work most of the time.....but

So I took my laptop to two different places yesterday and both said
"you need to be on Mozilla FireFox...it's much safer"

I tried Mozilla FireFox today and it seemd ok...still kind of just trying it out

So here is the point of this post....

HOW MANY OF YOU USE MOZILLA FIREFOX AS YOUR PRIMARY BROWSER?

HOW DO YOU LIKE IT?

DO YOU STILL GET VIRUSES/TROJANS?

DO YOU MISS SOME THINGS ABOUT IE?

I use Firefox almost exclusively. I cannot think of a single thing about IE that I miss. No virus problems to speak of.

I used Firefox almost exclusively until recently - I've switched mostly to Chrome.

was one of the main reasons you switched due to virus security?

also what the hell do these bozos get out of creating a virus?

i'm not sure I get it....they dont even know or see their victims....nor do they make money?

I've used Firefox for years and have no virus problems either -- knock on wood. Use Avast too.

one of the techs told me yesterday that Firefox is safer beacause it does not use "Active X"
whatever that means

I'm transitioning to Chrome myself, and recently invested in a Vipre Anti-Virus protection software

not sure why it's safer but according to the guys that wear pocket protectors it is better and safer than IE so I use it and don't have any virus issues.

I used both ,but mostly mozilla.
if i understand active x , that requires you to open your security to certain site
which may make you more vulnerable to attacks.

i switch from nortan to avg a few months ago and been incident free

the problem with most anti-virus businesses is they make money when you get attacked and need to pay for extra services.

so very few will attempt complete coverage.
ex. nortan wanted me to pay for malware removel because thats extra.

I`m pretty sure most folks who buy anti-virus don`t wants partial coverage

hey! I wear a pocket protector AND horn rimmed glasses
my niece refuses to stand next to me when I do that

kimba I asked the tech geek if they had "Rush" service available?
he said no....
i can't imagine not offering a rush level of service
but the place seemed pretty good
so i left my laptop for "up to 4 days" to be fixed

I know crap about computers, but what exactly is wrong with your computer?

is it the same problem or different everytime?

unrelated do you do standard maintenance stuff?
ex. defrag

this may sound simple but 60% of people I ask don`t know that word

I've considered using Chrome, though I like the customization Firefox allows. Is Chrome significantly better in performance?

For many things, yes. And the ability to customize Chrome is growing. One of the best features is that if one tab or window gets hung, the rest all continue to work.
