3D movies: fad? trend? good? bad? too soon to tell?
Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

A fad? yes.
A trend? yes
Good? depends on the film. The best ones will not try to continually poke the viewer in the eye with sharp objects.
It is a gimmick, like Cinemascope, but better than that.
I doubt that I will fork out big bucks for a 3-D TV.
But many will, and that's fine with me.

I`m avoiding all 3d movies till they do away with those uncomfortable glasses or til I save enough to get contacts.

but I`m a cheap S.O.B. so more likely just avoid them forever

Didn't I post that article about being able to fix nearly everybody's problem with 3D around here somewhere? Or was that only to FB?

Many people who can't see 3D properly can be trained to do so. Apparently, not seeing 3D well is an artifact of childhood.

I have no problem with 3-D, or the glasses. The major thing I have not liked about it is that they have used it in the sorts of movies I don't really like.  I watched that "Journey to the Center of the Earth" Disney thing with and without the glasses (accompanying friends) it was pretty awful both ways. The FX were good, but the plot was really, really dumb, the acting was unconvincing, and as I recall the soundtrack was annoying.

I haven't seen Avatar, and it look like I won't be seeing it in 3-D.

Does anyone remember those 3-D comic books with the red/green glasses. Now THOSE were dumb. But fun when you were twelve.

quite true
3d kinda drains out an engaging story

avatar had a okay story.

but  dang if i know how the bootleggers can make a viewable dvd out of that movie.

I`m betting it`ll be a short fad.
the extra cost to make the movie and the increase ticket price will catch up with them.

I'm betting the other way. With the extra cost to update a theater for the new style 3D, and seeing how many theaters are doing the upgrades (many of them to multiple screens, not just one) I'd say that the industry has pretty much announced the direction it's going.

"Dances with Smurfs" in space.

The ONLY reason to see this movie is the awesome 3D effects. Even stuff that is almost subliminal, like the insects buzzing around, seemingly IN the audience area.

The story kinda sucks.

I imagine that someone got a bootleg copy of an Oscar promo and put it on the internet, where it was downloaded. The other way would be to film the thing in the theatre with a videocam. That would make for a vastly worse copy. Whatever they did, you are not likely to get a 3-D version. The worst thing about pirate DVDs is they eliminate the captions, the ability to return to specific scenes, and any of the extras.I don;lt buy them anymore, I'd rather use Netflix.

I have heard that the first edition of Avatar will not have anything but the film itself: none of the trailers, director's comments, nothing: they are saving that for Christmas, when they hope to sell it to you a second time.

I hatred knows no bounds

the practice cranking out multiple version of a movie to get maximum bucks .

I got 2 versions of serenity if they ever get a 3rd 1 hour extended version made.
I`m out.
I a big time firefly fan but I have limits.

for any movie I really like ,I wait to see if a 2 disc set will come out .
I`m really glad i don`t have blueray ,that saves me a ton of money
