new topic about racism
« on: August 27, 2008, 07:41:58 PM »
sorry
I really believe it`s like beating a dead horse
but a co-worker brought a interesting thought

in the movie tropic thunder robert downey jr blacked a black guy and it got abit of flak from it.
the question posed is if a black guy pretended to be white in a movie would it cause more of a uproar?
I was told it would.
As a member of neither race I truely can`t know if this is offensive or not.
but then I don`t understand the attraction to gone with the wind and folks still don`t understand why I can`t relate.
but I never found dana carvey`s chinese shop keeper character offensive.
but that`s because he`s one of the few who actually can play chinese characters

I'm going to see that movie in about 2 hours. Anyway, nobody is responding to your race topic because we are burnt out on it and tired if the white guilt trip liberals try and put on people. This is one more reason we aren't ready for a black president. As you can see even Obama can't run without using race nor will the press allow him not to emphasize race. When race is magnified then it changes the dynamics into something other than electing a president and that's why we aren't ready for a black. I really believe the next black president will be anything but a Democrat because Democrats suffer from white guilt and can't do anything without making an issue of race. If a Republican ran he or she would not make and issue of their blackness and would not make it a qualification for running. Obama actually thinks it's time for a black and he's the chosen black person to run this country. He even made up a presidential seal. He also mentioned things like in 4 years I'll be starting my second term. I hope Obama running makes everyone happy but when he loses racism will be blamed and that confirms why I say that we as a nation aren't ready nor our we interested in a black president. I think it's time for an Asian for POTUS. To bad Johnny Chung is in the slammer.

uhm
Johnny Chung is the junkfax king
meaning he would be one of the most hated people of the united states if people bother knowing who he is
just like spammers but more oldschool
and he`s not even a native.
is he like the only asian you know?
we are invisible

There was a Satruday night live skit once in which a black guy disguised himself as white.

It was very funny.

In 1860 it would have been a serious matter and perhaps fatal.

The passage of many events between these times made the diffrence.

I suppose you know the trials the Chineese went thru as California pioneers quite well , how much has that changed?

The Wayans brothers played a couple of white women in a film. It was a comedy, though hardly a great one.

eddy murphy did that skit

if I remember right quite alot has change
chinese finally were finally able to become naturalized citizens in 1967 I believe
WW2 was actually a goodthing for chinese because the laws finally change to allow chinese to work in the united states.
chineseamerican history is quite different from other ethnic groups
the hardships was not done out of hatred but fear from maintaining americans quality of life.
the most common phrase I hear is I`m out to steal jobs.
agood portion of chinese-american history is about labor.
even the offensive phrase "chinamen chance "is about the willingness of chinese to work the most dangerous of jobs and often die.
even our stereotype is based on our ability to do hard labor
ex. all chinese are rich
it came from the fact the chinese are the only folks willing to mine abandoned mines and sell the substandard gold considered garbage to regular miners.
it brought on the legend chinese are good at making money

the wayans family are so cool
they tool advantage of thier simple beggining to the point that no matter how much money they lose they will still be able to live comfortable
they call it not living like a rapper.
damian stated about his divorce his ex can all the money she wants and still he`ll be rich.
meaning he does not. live a expensive a life and such a major lose of monery would not effect him as much.

never seen a charlie chan movie, but I find it fiunny that key luke(master po) played the son
a most unasian character also
but peter lorre -mister moto series is quite good
everybody looks down on him and he takes advatage of it and solves cases
a proto columbo
but pearl harbor happened it stopped

Oh yes , Pearl Harbor was a hinge point , the Whole country was hurt with the Japaneese them and suddenly felt a lot of sympathy for the Nation of China .

Claire Cheneau was there already and was an employuee of the Chineese , he got a lot of good press after Pearl harbor.

1965. They removed the yearly limits on immigration from China.
