I am positive that all the "research" about the Canadian program emanates from the NRA.

That is simple to fix.

Don't depend on what I find.

There must be some real Canadians discussing this, including a minority that actually like the program.

As for me I have looked over enough to be satisfied about these facts.

a)The NRA has very little clout in Canada.

b)The registration effort has cost much more than estimated.

c)The registration is impossible to complete.

d)Canadian police do not find the register useful.

e)Public support for the measure is falling.

I suppose it possible that I am wrong about some parts of this, that happens now and then.

If you find a better set of facts please let me know.

But long before the US starts doing something alike to the Canadian program, we should try to understand what really happened in Canada.

Are Canadians a lot more or a lot less co-operative with government?

Of course, there are gun nuts in Canada as well.  Some of the nuttiest rightwingers on this continent are Canadians.

They could start by registering sales of guns in this country. I agree that forcing gun crazed nitwits to re3gister their guns would be difficult and probably cause more problems that it could solve.  They also need to close that gun show loophole.

If it is difficult in Canada, where guns are much less available in the first place, registration in the US would have to be an order of magnitude more difficult and expensive.

Also, though it might already be impossible , there is a new layer of impossibility coming , anyone who owns a lathe and milling machine with skill can make his own gun .
Soon this skill will not be needed.
The proliferation of CNC machines and additive manufacturing machines in businesses and homes will make it impossible to count new guns as they are produced.

So let people make their own guns. They can make their own booze, they can grow their own weed, they can cook their own meth. So what?
Then they can make their own ammo.

No, we start by demonstrating how such an action, prevents anyone from getting shot, to even justify such a massively expensive, tax payer payed for national debacle of bureaucracy

They also need to close that gun show loophole.

There is no such loophole at gun shows.  That'd be another leftist talking point with no validity to it.  EVERY GUN SOLD AT A GUN SHOW, MUST GO THRU A BACKGROUND CHECK.  Anything else done would be ILLEGAL.  That would include 2 consenting adults, behind some curtain at a gun show, or even at one of the booths, exchanging gun(s) for money
