Cato is a foundation financed by the Kochs and composed of nitwits. They are unqualified to do any research, and their "data" is bogus.

Naaa, the way it works is to provide evidence/data/facts that supposedly debunk the supposed "bogus data".  Some anti-constitutional liberal's 99% wrong say so, just isn't going to cut it

Are there orgs that we could both trust?

A think tank that works in favor of gun controll or other liberal causes would be just as suspect to me as Cato is to you.

Can there be a disinterested sorce for such surveys?

The government collects all sorts of data on crime, but some asshole rightwing congressman got a bill passed banning Congress to pay any money to release the data.

I do not believe one damned thing that Cato says.

Before he was an asshole tax nut, Norquist worked for Big Tobacco, denying that cigarettes caused cancer. Cato is run by the Kochs and used for their purposes.

That didn't quite answer Plane's question now, did it

I wish the government was a disinterested party, but I don't think it is/are.

Isn't airport security paid for by a surcharge to the airlines and to a lesser extent to the passengers?

If the answer to maintaining the status quo on gun laws is to have an armed staff person on the grounds of every school in the nation, then the cost will be borne by someone, preferably the users.

It is something to look at. And the cost could be minimized by certified volunteers, which might be something the NRA could work on.

Oh man , that would draw quite a lot of volenteers.

There could be a little gang of well armed grandpaws strolling every campus in the nation.

What would certification amount to?

That is the million dollar question isn't it.

The certification process should be stringent enough to placate the kneejerk naysayers but flexible enough to optimize volunteer over paid staff.

A background check would be required to keep the children safe from predators, and other unsuitable persons.

Familiarity with firearms would be a must.

Perhaps a course in crisis management would be in order.

This list is just a start.

LaPierre's wacky suggestion will come to absolutely nothing. The feds will not put armed guards in every school, nor will there be certified volunteer gun freaks, either.

All I said was the gun freaks should pay for guarding the schools if they think it is so damned important.

Who would have expected 15 years ago that we would be herded through corrals and have our naked bodies shown on a screen to total strangers.

It's a brave new world.

Never say never.

Cause ya never know.

Don't be too modest , your contribution might turn out to be signifigant.

I think something like the duck stamp program could harvest a major portion of the needed funds , and the NRA already sponsors some training programs , ramping them up would not upset them a bit.

The average number of people killed in mass shootings when stopped by police is 14.29

The average number of people killed in a mass shooting when stopped by a civilian is 2.33

I guess some folks find that protecting our children better is pretty damned more important, than others
