"The military lets gay men and lesbians serve if they keep their sexual orientation private. Commanders may not ask, and service members may not tell. More than 10,000 troops, including more than 50 specialists in Arabic, have been discharged since        President Clinton signed it into law in 1994."

Some sorces claim these estimates are high.

Is there a sorce we can rely on for that?

On the side note , I hope that the ultra conservative and prudeish Taliban prisoners at Guntanimo don't think we are hiring gay questioners. They all have it bad enough already includeing the questioners.

live in san diego for a few years and you`ll see how much adultry is part of military life.
my brother was stationed there awhile back and he can`t count how many navy wives tried to pick-up on him.
I`ve heard at least three prostitutions stings happening there.
at least the military can tell gays to keep there hands to themselve.
adultry has no control.
it just happens

You can get demoted or fired for it.
But that does't keep it from being there.

those estimate does sound high
but possible since gays in the military tend to be high achievers.
note none ever been discharge due bad performance .
you would think they would publish poor performance.
ex. richard the 1st winner of surviver was a west pointer
living here in san francisco you can`t help but notice thee most successful nieghborhood is the castro.
unlike other minority groups they get no help at all and still they thrive extremely well.

the service people oversea hear about they`re spouse cutting them loose.
I think the term is dear john.
I don`t do this, but I do know guys who are very predatory to service wives and girlfriends.

I served on a Destroyer.

300 men on a ship 400 feet long.

30 slept in my compartment , those "dear John" letters arrived for us at a rate of one a month.

But at least at that time we had no pregnancy on board.

At this time every Navy ship looses a sailor to pregnacy on every cruse , large ships loose several.

Integrateing women into the Navy is a great secret failure , although women are doing jobs as Sailors early as well as men , they are a barely bearable strain on the already highly stressed culture.

But itis the end of a Captains carreer to say so , wise military men are not free with their thoughts.

I can`t think of an answer to that
without sounding like a m.c.pig.
my brother told me this goes on
but none of this is in the news
do you know if guys still get their blood strips?
I hear people are trying to stop it,but I never hear of anyone getting permanent damage from it.
my brother didn`t seem to mind it at all,it just pain.
