McCain didn’t report ties to Contra group

As a freshman congressman in the early 1980s, John McCain did not disclose his connections to a controversial group that was implicated in a secretive plot to supply arms to Nicaraguan militia groups during the Iran-Contra affair.

McCain did not list his service on the board of the U.S. Council for World Freedom on mandatory congressional disclosure forms asking about positions he held outside government.

McCain’s aides said he wasn’t required to report the affiliation.

Democrats in the past several days have seized on McCain’s ties to the U.S. Council and its founder John Singlaub to push back against the McCain campaign’s increasing focus on ties of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) to Bill Ayers, a founder of the 1960s radical group Weather Underground.

McCain joined the board of the U.S. Council soon after Singlaub founded it in McCain’s adopted hometown of Phoenix in November 1981 as the U.S. branch of the World Anti-Communist League. The league billed itself as a supporter of “pro-Democratic resistance movements fighting communist totalitarianism,” but it had also been branded by critics as a haven for extremists, racists and anti-Semites.

McCain aides now say he felt comfortable affiliating with the group because Singlaub had taken steps to purge those elements. Singlaub, while a controversial figure, also boasted a storied career as a decorated veteran in World War II and the U.S. conflicts in Korea and Vietnam. He retired from the Army as a major general.

But McCain campaign spokesman Brian Rogers told Politico that McCain notified the group of his intent to leave the board in September 1984 because “questions were raised about its activities.”

A review of the personal financial disclosure forms McCain filed after his election to the U.S. House in 1982 show that he did not list the group in the section of his 1982, 1983 and 1984 reports in which he was required to disclose all positions he held outside of government.

The instructions on the form require filers to report “the identity of all positions held on or before the date of the filing during the current calendar year as an officer, director, trustee, partner, proprietor, representative, employee, or consultant of any corporation, firm, partnership, or other business enterprise, any nonprofit organization, any labor organization, or any educational or other institution.”

But Rogers told Politico “those directions have never been understood to include advisory boards or other positions which exercise no control over the organization and no fiduciary responsibilities for the organization.” And he said “our understanding is that his involvement did not involve any fiduciary responsibility for the organization and no control over the organization.”

Gee, let's see - - board of directors, group associated with actual violence as opposed to the symbolic violence of Bill Ayers, death squad connections, Nazi connections, silence, concealment . . .

Everything that BT, sirs and CU4 are accusing Obama of, only a closer connection, a more violent and deadly group, real Nazis involved.  My gosh, the "left-wing" MSM should be all over this one like flies on shit.

But they are strangely silent.  So much for this massive, lock-step "liberal" MSM the right is always whining about.

So when he was asked these questions on the campaign trail was he less than candid? Did he say they were just guys in the neighborhood?

That would provide a direct apples to apples comparison to Obama, wouldn't it?

Oooops!  Let's be fair to Singlaub, and even McCain.

From the Wikipedia article on General John Singlaub
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_K._Singlaub

<<Singlaub was founder in 1981 of the U.S. Council for World Freedom, the US chapter of the World Anti-Communist League (WACL). The chapter became involved with the Iran-Contra affair,[2] with Associated Press reporting that, "Singlaub's private group became the public cover for the White House operation". [3] The WACL was described by former member Geoffrey Stewart-Smith as "largely a collection of Nazis, Fascists, anti-Semites, sellers of forgeries, vicious racialists, and corrupt self-seekers." [4] He is credited with purging the organization of these types and making it respectable.[5]>>

Well, if Singlaub really did purge the Nazis, antisemites and racists (and I certainly don't trust the Wikipedia article as to that) then it's going to be difficult to accuse McCain, who he brought into the organization, of being in bed with them.

<<U.S. Army General William Westmoreland described Singlaub as a "true military professional" and "a man of honest, patriotic conviction and courage."[citation needed] >>

So a piece of shit war criminal gives Singlaub his props.  Powerful circumstantial evidence in itself as to what kind of human being Singlaub himself must be.

<<Congressman Henry J. Hyde, (Judiciary, Foreign Affairs, and Intelligence Committees), described Singlaub as "a brave man, a thorough patriot, and a keen observer" - someone who had been "in the centre of almost every controversial military action since World War II.">>

Hyde, you recall of course as the lying fucking hypocrite mercilessly in pursuit of Bill Clinton for his famous Lewinski BJ, till it was published that he too was a liar and an adulterer.  An affair which he tried to pass off as "a youthful indiscretion," though it turned out this had happened when he was over 40 years old.

<<In 1977, while Singlaub was chief of staff of U.S. forces in South Korea, he publicly criticized President Jimmy Carter's decision to withdraw U.S. troops from the Korean peninsula. On March 21, 1977, Carter relieved him of duty for overstepping his bounds and failing to respect the President's authority as Commander-in-Chief.".[6][7]>>

An insubordinate officer given to criticizing his C-in-C in public and fired for it.  Not exactly what I'd call a friend of democracy or even of the rule of law.  Definitely a dangerous man and one to keep an eye on at all times.

So even if further investigation doesn't back up the "in bed with the Nazis" argument, it is already established that McCain was in bed with Central American death squads.

Yes, let's see.  Oooooh, the suspense is killing me.

<<McCain was "connected" with people trying to overthrow communist . . . >>

Ooooh, so close.  ALMOST.  McCain was connected (served on the Board, actually) of people IN VIOLATION OF U.S. NEUTRALITY LAWS who were trying to overthrow communists BY THE USE OF FASCIST DEATH SQUADS.

See, some of us don't have that happy tolerance for anyone who is "trying to overthrow communist"   We remember a fellow named Adolf Hitler, who invaded Russia with the express intention of "trying to overthrow communist."

"Trying to overthrow communist" is not being a good guy.  The guys who McCain associated with were terrorists.  Tried to murder public officials.  Set off bombs that killed innocents.  Tortured people to death in public to intimidate the others.  Terrorists in the real sense.  Get it?  John Insane was on the Board of Directors that financed, advised and promoted terrorists.

The difference between John McCain and Obama were like this:
1.  McCain didn't just "associate" with known terrorists - - he sat on a board of directors and supervised, raised money for, advised, helped and facilitated their terroristic activities.
2.  Unlike Bill Ayers, who really killed nobody, the terrorists supported by John McCain killed thousands of people, mostly dirt-poor Nicaraguan peasants, priests and nuns.  So McCain has the blood of innocent Central Americans on his hands (as well as thousands of Vietnamese) and Bill Ayers, Obama's pal, has none.

Ha ha ha.  Poor CU4.  He gets it, but he can't admit he gets it.  It's OK.  We all understand.
