You're thinking small brass. I don't know about you, but my car seems to have a mind of it's own!

But seriously, you've read I Robot I assume?

Sorry, Rich, but no, I haven't read I, Robot.  I did see that horrible movie that Will Smith made.

While computing has gotten more complicated and improved by leaps and bounds, a machine (even one with a computer "brain") will only do what it is designed or programmed to do.

My uncle has a crippled right hand because he was got it caught in a machine that pressed plastic.  The machine did what it was designed to do.  It didn't come alive and eat my uncle's hand.

Now, I certainly believe that a robot could be programmed to kill eventually.  Sure.  But someone can drive a car into a crowd and kill 20 as well.  Doesn't mean we need to stop making cars.  Does it?

If we can make robots that can farm 24-7.  I say, "how long till they're up and running?"  If we can make a robot that can make beds in a hospital, I say, "start now."
If we can make a robot to do anything that relieves humans from drudgery, then I say let's do it and have free college for everyone and let's become a race of intellectuals who don't have to work unless we want to.

While computing has gotten more complicated and improved by leaps and bounds, a machine (even one with a computer "brain") will only do what it is designed or programmed to do.

This totally ignores the concept of "bugs." And when you're talking about self-replicating machines, bugs in the original design can replicate incorrectly and become different / damaging.

And who's paying for all of this?

>>If we can make a robot to do anything that relieves humans from drudgery, then I say let's do it and have free college for everyone and let's become a race of intellectuals who don't have to work unless we want to.<<

As you know, we already have robots doing tasks that humans used to do. That can cause problems. It's a standard science fiction concept that humans will (and already do) recent robots that take away human jobs. That, if for no other reason, is why I think we'll never see robots that one; look humanoid and two; do anything other than the most menial of jobs. What we will see I think, is robots exploring space. They can work in the most extreme of conditions and could one day help discover valuable resources on other planets.

Who pays for it now?

Capitalists.

Then they can pay for robots.  What's the diff?

And can I just add how retarded and useless sirs' D'OH! is?  It is really tantamount to the mental deficient wrestler who stands behind the slightly less mentally deficient wrestler and yells "Yeah!"

They already ARE paying for robots. Who do you thinks builds 'em anyway?

That's my freaking POINT!

For every robot that is built, a job goes out the window.

What do you think the people out of a job are going to do once they are replaced by a robot?

We can have a whole social class of unemployed Americans or we can do the right thing and move toward socialism.

Of course you can.  Fits nicely into so many of your other inaccurate opinionated deductions/conclusions

Ha! I got a good laugh out of that one. A whole social class of unemployed Americans... just like how the industrial revolution left everyone unemployed? Come on, Brass. Don't be ridiculous.
Your reality, sir, is lies and balderdash and I'm delighted to say that I have no grasp of it whatsoever.

We can have a whole social class of unemployed Americans or we can do the right thing and move toward socialism.

So, you want capitalists to pay for the robots, then you want to take everything away from them when it's done?
