You're thinking small brass. I don't know about you, but my car seems to have a mind of it's own!
But seriously, you've read I Robot I assume?
Sorry, Rich, but no, I haven't read
I, Robot. I did see that horrible movie that Will Smith made.
While computing has gotten more complicated and improved by leaps and bounds, a machine (even one with a computer "brain") will only do what it is designed or programmed to do.
My uncle has a crippled right hand because he was got it caught in a machine that pressed plastic. The machine did what it was designed to do. It didn't come alive and eat my uncle's hand.
Now, I certainly believe that a robot could be programmed to kill eventually. Sure. But someone can drive a car into a crowd and kill 20 as well. Doesn't mean we need to stop making cars. Does it?
If we can make robots that can farm 24-7. I say, "how long till they're up and running?" If we can make a robot that can make beds in a hospital, I say, "start now."
If we can make a robot to do anything that relieves humans from drudgery, then I say let's do it and have free college for everyone and let's become a race of intellectuals who don't have to work unless
we want to.
