MEXICO CITY, Sept 27 (Reuters) - The mayor of a small town in western Mexico was found on Monday stoned to death in the third attack on a public official in the country in less than a week, local authorities said.

The bodies of Gustavo Sanchez, mayor of Tancitaro in Michoacan state, and an aide were found, officials said.

"It appears they stoned them to death," a source from the local prosecutor's office said on condition of anonymity.

Local media reported that the bodies were found in the back of a flat-bed truck.

There was no immediate indication whether the killings were related to drug violence. More than 29,000 people have been killed in violence between rival drug cartels and between cartels and state security forces since President Felipe Calderon launched his offensive on cartels in 2006.

On Friday, a mayor-elect in northern Chihuahua state was shot in the head and chest by suspected drug hitmen, leaving him in critical condition.

A day earlier, armed men killed the mayor of a town outside Mexico's northern business city of Monterrey.

why?

Why not, it might make politicians better if their lives are on the line. The current program has failed all across the US so let's try something new and fresh.

The other thing to do would be to chain them all together and dump them at the bottom of the ocean. That would be a good start too.

So you have more faith in the bullet than the ballot?

I'll make my final decision in November

The ballot didn't work very well in California with both Props 187 and 8.

Unforunately Kramer, you'd be advocating the stoning of the electorate, not simply a politician

What will be interesting with prop 19, is that Federal law is clearly specific on the matter.  You can't possess or sell an illegal drug.  So, if 19 passes, can we expect the Holder to sue the State of CA?  A "Blue" state??  Don't bet on it.  Now, if we were a "red" state like AZ, then we could expect a Federal Lawsuit

what do you mean -- come on, it's liberal strategy to dumb down the population. I think Holder & Obama will do a Hi-five on this one when it passes.

Naaa, if this were a "red" state, the federal lawsuits would be lining up, upon its passage

well that doesn't make any sense. a red state wouldn't do something so stupid.

Which is why Obama needs to go after them, while the blue states are off limits

After Nov Obama will have his hands full. The shitstorm that is about to hit with the new Congress will surely impede his plans.

If the GOP simply ran on 1st defunding, with a pledge to repeal, when able (2012), that alone gets them back to majority status.  Last I saw, a paltry 18% thought Obamacare was the end-all be-all great piece of legislation, while a vast majority of the electorate think (accurately so) just how terrible it really is.

Just think, Obama's "signature item", the thing he most wanted people to remember him for...his "Social Security" program,.... disdained/despised thru-out the country, and not one Democrat is running on singing its praises of supporting and signing that piece of legislative crap, this coming Nov.  At least no one I've seen
