Solar panels are made mostly of silicon, steel ansd aluminum, none of which is toxic.
The solar panels will only affect the amount of sunlight hitting the area beneath the solar panel.
These people appear to be hicktown yokels of the most extreme type.

We have a few of those near here, they are usually built on "waste" land .

This wasted land used to have a lot of trees , so , now they have a lot of these unsightly structures.

I would like to see a lot of photovoltaic cells on walls and roofs and on the sides of bridges and the medians of highways on the flanks of smokestacks etc...

I don't like the idea that a woodlot is wasted land.

Most of Nevada seems ideal for solar panels.  The land is alkali and would be useless if there were water, which there isn't.
Germany has lots of solar energy, and I do not think they cut down many trees to make room for solar panels.

I think it requires being smart about it.

If your solar panels made your parking lot shady , this would not bother .

But what I have seen done is woodlots cut down for them, which is at best half good.

The problem i have with solar is that people still require a ultility company to supply them with power. Solar should be a home supplimental system to cut down usage from the power company. The better solution should be cutting usage altgether. This way rising prices will be difficult for power companies to do.

When there are better batteries, it will be possible to rely on solar power alone.

We got decent ones but the cost of panels and battery will make it totally not viable financially . I'm not even sure it's legal for home to have a battery. Lithium ion in a home can very easily be prevented by the power companies.

When batteries, not necessarily Lithium ion batteries are cheaper, and this will eventually happen, I do not see how the electric utilities could prevent people from owning and installing them.

Hre in Florida the power companies have lobbies then suckup Republicans in the state legislature to refuse to pass laws by which they would have to buy back power from solar and other sources owned by homeowners. But they have no say over what we can install in our homes.

The government can forbid almost anything, if you don't watch them they will.

Suppose the power company gets too much influence on the laws composition , they could declare a lot of things unsafe and outlaw them, whether the safety was the main concern or not.

Thats why i said lithium ion. It's pretty the battery of choice and recently they are starting to explode. Nothing at all to do with home power systems but I can see how power companies can legally stop it.

Battery technology is the one thing we're weak at and The improvements has been very slow. It seems innovation proof

Lithium ion batteries have exploded a few times. But they rarely explode, and they are not the only type of battery that exists. They Lithium batteries are great because they are lightweight. In a home application, weight is not as important a concern as in a vehicle.

How many Prius explosions, how many Tesla explosions have their been?  Very few.

tesla recently has problems with them but so far thier rep is still intact. but hoverboards are a serious problems at the moment. so if home batteries start cutting corners then explosion are very possible.

thiers are better batteries but thier at such a early stage it`s unknown if they ever past the cost phase. something are just too costly to be sold public is the sad reality sometimes

I think the flow battery is very promising for home and farm use.
It can be bulky and heavy , but it has a high limit of stored power.
