U.S. President-elect Barack Obama's NASA transition team is asking U.S. space agency officials to quantify how much money could be saved by canceling the Ares 1 rocket and scaling back the Orion Crew Exploration Vehicle next year.

I have been wondering what the new administration would want to do with the Space program.
What questions they ask is only a clue.

They are planning a new shuttle that will take off and land like a plane, rather than one with many booster rockets. That has to be expensive.

The low cost option is to depend on Russian launches.
