Trash Collectors Refuse to Pick Up Toxic Eco-Bulbs

By Van Helsing

March 9, 2011 9:46 AM

Nothing could more perfectly summarize the perverse insanity of eco-fascism than
Big Government's war on the incandescent light bulb. Because sanctimonious
bureauweenies are winning this war, traditional light bulbs will soon be illegal,
leaving us with inferior yet more expensive compact fluorescents, which are
so toxic that garbagemen are balking at their presence in the trash:

Councils across the UK are refusing to pick up low-energy lightbulbs from homes
as they contain toxic mercury, which gives off poisonous vapours.

But confused consumers are putting the new bulbs "classed as hazardous waste"
in their dustbins when they burn out, potentially putting the safety of thousands of
binmen at risk.

A study by Germany's Federal Environment Agency found that when
[a compact fluorescent bulb] breaks, it emits levels of toxic vapour
up to 20 times higher than the safe guideline limit for an indoor area.

Yet Europeans and Americans alike will be forced to use them anyway
for the sake of the environment.

Twisted.

The amount of Mercury involved is tiny.

More mercury is released into the environment by burning coal than by making florescent bulbs.

Eat a fish, but not a big one, eating a big swordfish steak would be like eating one of those lightbulbs.

Possibly true, but eating a fish would seem to me to be quite a bit more satisfying that chowing down a lightbulb. :P

LEDs seem to be the eventual solution. They need to be brighter and cheaper.

Call a hazmat team, and EPA to write a report, if (God forbid) you break one in your home!

i am a dimmer freak & the curly cue lights dont work worth a damn with dimmers
they sometimes will go completely off when you try to dim to a low light setting
plus they make a buzz
they came out with more dimmer friendly version but they are sky high
if you drop one on your bathroom counter you could get a light mercury mist/splatter

i read this week the know-it-all control freaks are even discussing people
not washing their clothes as often to conserve energy and water....
you know some of the A-hole control freaks would like to enact
laws telling us how much we can wash our clothes...
they mandated hot water restricters on washing machines
so now on newer machines there are some complaints of needing to wash twice
they wanna nanny everything....where we can set our thermostats....it never ends...
like Michael Savage says...it's a mental disorder...always wanting to control people
