question about peanuts.
« on: April 23, 2011, 01:25:09 PM »
I`ve hearing about places banning peanuts. I can`t help thinking the next step is getting rid of peanuts altogether.

I don`t care if I never eat a peanut again, but I think this pursuit is charlie sheen crazy

shouildn`t the better course be helping the person with the allergy
ex. speacial cloths or filters

people in china & japan wears masks in public with no hassles

It seems to me that people were never allergic to peanuts until the 1980's. I had a number of allergies as a kid, and went to an allergy doctor, and he gave me a series of diets with and without various foods to determine what I was allergic to. I don't think peanuts were mentioned on any of the materials he gave me. I used to eat PBJ sandwiches nearly every day.

I know wheat gluten was on the list of possible foods to omit, but I don't remember ever  being told to not eat peanuts.

Strangely, I do not seem to be allergic to anything, other than some Cholesterol-combating margarine (I think it is called Promise) that gave me a rash. I went away to college in New Mexico, spent a couple of years in Mexico, and when I returned, my allergies had mostly vanished.

I am not for banning peanuts, and I rather liked the freebie bags of peanuts the airlines used to hand out.

I knew about the hygiene hypothesis but after reading that link it dawned on me another facter that kids pre-hygiene did have a high mortality rate so maybe a weaken immune system is tied to allergies.

which does sound improbable since allergies is a product of immunity

It used to be nice to get a meal on a flight of more than a couple of hours. Then the airlines cheaped out and went to tiny bags of peanuts. Along about the same time, the seats got smaller with less legroom and the service started to suck. Haven't flown commercial coach since.

If you fly within the US, they won't feed anyone in coach, even flying from Miami to Honolulu. First Class will get you a really nice meal, and champagne or wine as well. I lucked out once. First class is LOTS more enjoyable.

If you fly to Argentina or uruguay, you get fed, though, even on a flight that flies between 8 PM and 6 AM on the return to Miami.

I did that once as a comp for getting bumped on a flight. 1st class is NICE. I would never pay for it but more than willing to get it if offered.
