The silver lining in high gas prices is that when prices go up, so do mutual funds that invest in petroleum and drilling equipment.

RYVIX is up  over 18% for the past year. 18% of a $10K investment is enough to pay for ALL the Diesel I use in the past year.

There are, of course, other ETF's and mutual funds in this area, and some do even better, but this one is more diversified.

Typical selfish liberal. Seems like the things you hate most about billionaires is what you yourself are guilty of doing. Nothing like capitalizing off of poor people by investing in greedy big oil. Plus, like Rupert you don't create jobs, you pollute by burning diesel, you invest. You are just a mini me rupert murdoch with a little dick!!!

Last month I used exactly 10 gallons of Diesel. There is no way I can make any fortune off the rise in the price of oil, as I do not have enough money invested to make a bit of difference.

You cannot change the system, so you have to go with the flow. If you do not you get screwed.

xo....how high do you think oil goes in next 4 months?
are we near the short term top?
will it start falling because of soon coming US recession causes greater demand weakness?

When I buy into a fund, I expect to hold it for a minimum of 90 days. I do not rule out possibly bailing after less than that, but there is a small penalty that Scottrade and Schwab impose for early withdrawals, and I avoid all fees. So far I have not bailed, but there is always a first time..

Historically, high oil prices stay with us until there is a dip in October due to colder weather and the need to change the refinery settings to produce more home heating oil and less gasoline. So I am saying that I expect the high prices to stay high until mid-October, if not longer. The main fund I invested in RYVIX, also invests in drilling equipment and such, and I count on the management to shift the mix around to improve earnings. That is what mutual fund managers are for and why they are paid. I think prices will continue to rise slowly until August at least. I am not sure of what the high will be.

Civil unrest in Saudi Arabia or Iran could cause a more rapid rise, but I do not anticipate this.

The market is always a gamble, and this is not a major share of my investments.

I don't know about coal. The price of coal is not really related to the price of petroleum.

Coal mining companies are about the only corporations even more disreputable than oil companies.
