BAGHDAD -- A U.S. congressman visiting Baghdad Friday suggested that Iraq pay back the United States for the money it has spent in the eight years since the U.S.-led invasion in 2003.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher spoke during a one-day visit by a group of six U.S. congressman. The California Republican said he raised the suggestion during a meeting with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki that some day when Iraq is a "prosperous" nation it pay back the U.S. for everything that it has done here.

"We would hope that some consideration be given to repaying the United States some of the megadollars we have spent here in the last eight years," Rohrabacher told reporters at the U.S. Embassy after the meeting.

He did not say what reaction, if any, the prime minister had to the suggestion.

We come , we blow up things, we liberate, we submit bill.

I kinda like the way this guy thinks.

Perhaps before we ever liberate another country we should submit an estimate and draw up a contract.

I agree 100% with Rohrabacher. (who btw spoke at my brother's funeral in 2009)
This is something that should be automatic.
We saved Kuwait....why shouldnt they pay us back every dime.
Once Iraq is further along they should pay us back as well.

The difference is that Kuwait asked for the US to intervene and conquer back their country.

The Iraqis made no such invitation.

No matter how good an idea it might be, it will not happen. Invading Iraq was a very expensive thing to do, but it was entirely optional. Had Al Gore been president, there surely would have been no invasion.

Iraq will not pay the US back. Perhaps some US companies will get cheaper deals on oil, but because of bribery, not reparations.
