President Obama had to decide how to bring this down, there were alternatives.
An all Air Force mission that would unload enough high explosive on that house to make survival of any and all impossible. This is a very dependable method , hardly has a way to go wrong. The large smoking hole might not give up enough Osama particles to prove it tho.
A Raptor firing a hellfire could be done by the CIA alone, if they really knew his exact location this would have very likely worked and would have risked very little, another advantage would be easy cleanup.
A regiment sized invading force could parachute in and slug it out .....
An infiltrating spy could have poisoned Osamas grocerys ...
A force of Packistani police and army could have crept close and stormed the ......Hahahahahahaha I can't pretend that trusting the Packistani government was a real choice.
A sniper on a roof could have done it with one .50cal round from a mile and a half away.
A LNG truck parked across the street could be induced to ignite, produceing a Bleve.
Etc... Etc...
Now is the time for second guessing ,with hindsight on our side we can certainly come up with a better plan .
But the President never has the advantage of hindsight, he hasn't got every possible plan availible either.
I think that President Obama made a good decision , can't argue with the results.
Really .....this would have been a good decision with less good results.
A decision can't be quantified only on the basis of results , it has to be juged also as it compares to the other realistic options that were really availible.
Like the choice to do nothing at all, that one was there, and at least two previous presidents gave Osama Bin Laden benefit of the doubt when he was in someones gunsight.
Considering all the availible information, I am ready to call this a good decision on the part of the president.
Kudos also to the military personell who by dint of excellence made a raid like this into an availible choice.
