Because I imagine that he thought that the republican'ts were not so stubborn and foolish as to let it go through.

But he was wrong: they ARE that stubborn and foolish.

All of Washington should be sequestered until they pass legislation that will conquer the debt.

ALL of Washington? What would that mean?

If it means that all elected reps, senators and their staffs as well as all lobbyists be denied their paychecks, that would be fine with me.

If it means that we should stop paying the cops and firemen, no.

I could get 22 days of furlough this year.

I would feel a lot better about it if the President and Congress lost three weeks pay too.

Emotionalism.......yep, that embodies the current manifestation of the Democratic party.  This is about slowing the rate of growth for crying out loud.  It's not even a cut.  Good god, is anyone in the MSM gonna call him out, on this??

If you should find yourself agreeing with me more and more that would mean you're becoming enlightened.

In all seriousness, remember I was a Republican until very recently. I left the party because the party changed. It's no longer representative of what the GOP stood for when I was growing up. Just for starters is the anti-abortion plank of their platform. You can't be a real Republican and support the government telling the women in your life whether they can have an abortion or not.  It's none of the governments damn business.  That said, I'm sill very much a fiscal conservative in many ways. I just could no longer sanction the social and religious trends the party adopted since Reagan. I'm for directly helping the poor, not just praying for them.

BTW, I don't mean to turn this thread into another discussion on abortion. Please no.

I pretty much feel the same way.
But of course probably in a different direction.
The Republican Party has become way, way, way too liberal for me.
Party has never meant diddly to me.
I would as soon vote for somebody I agreed with if they were in any party.

If the Republican Party does NOT move to the left, it can kiss its hopes of electing a president goodbye.

How can they claim to say they are against the government intruding on the rights of individuals when they want to control a woman's choices for reproduction, tell people that gays should have no rights to marry because of what they do in the bedroom, and blather about the greatness of for-profit medicine, and offer no choices for those who think that it is a bad idea?
