AAA Says Freezing Temperatures Can
Cut EV Range By More Than Half

Electric Cars - 3/20/14

It's been established that electric cars aren't fond of weather that isn't pretty mild. But a new study from AAA says that range advertised could be cut by a staggering 57 percent if conditions aren't ideal.

In a study released Thursday, AAA says the average range of EVs in their testing was cut by that 57 percent figure over the EPA rating when driving in 20 degree weather. That means they were only able to get 43 miles on a charge when it was below freezing, versus 105 miles when it was 75 degrees out.

Hot weather also decreased EV range, AAA says, but not as much as the freezing temps.

Until that's all figured out, EVs are only going to do well in places that don't see much weather, like Southern California. Try explaining to someone in Chicago this winter why their Nissan Leaf only got them 43 precent of the way to work.

Most people do not commute that far to work. If you commute 8 miles a day, you will have no problems. If you commute over 20 miles, then you should consider a car that is not entirely electric. This is not the political issue you want to make it. The person who got only 45% of his way to work is hypothetical and probably does not even exist.

Oh yeah people don't do anything but commute to work. They all stay at home on weekends and don't travel to games home and away for their kids, go on weekend trips, or ever venture beyond 8 miles. The all electric car is a joke/fraud just like bankrupt Sylendra that cost $535 million in taxpayer money courtesy of Obama!

Electric cars make sense for some people. If you don't want one, no one is forcing you to buy one.

As I said, it is not a political issue and you are stupid to think it is one. It shows that you waste too much time listening to idiots.

Solyndra is teensy small potatoes when compared with Juniorbush's useless war in Iraq.

President Obama rescued GM and Chrysler. He is smarter than your goofy governor Perry or that cur, Cruz.

It is and will be an extremely small niche market,
But Obama and the Left push it with loan incentives and taxpayer funds
so they can pretend it has a real near successful future....it's a joke.

Who the hell cares??  He can sound like Elmer Fudd, since that has squat to do with his policies, intelligence, or why Texas (& ND) are leading the nation in job growth/creation.  Here's a hint, it has nothing to do with how anyone talks...that would be a deflection...something to try and focus on, vs the actual points being made    :o
