A flat tax on profits earned makes some sense to the corporate tax rate.

It does not make sense for individuals.

Why?  You can't get much fairer than a flat tax.  Rich person pays the same % as a not so rich person, but because it's a % they pay far more in actual taxes.....the perfect progressive tax system.  And most importantly, no special interests getting various legislators to chop holes for this deduction or that loop hole

Is fairness the point?

It needs to work , whether it is fair or not is secondary to it must work.

Having the least competitive tax handicaps American business in competition with the businesses of nations with smarter governments.

If we tax our businesses whatever percent more than the competition , we hand that percent advantage (unearned) to the competition.

From Chicken carcasses to cars , Americans have to be more efficient and thrifty and higher quality just to pull even and make sales , in the US and in the world.

Next time you buy a Chinese apple instead of a Wisconsin apple , this is probably the reason.

If the people perceive of the government as being inherently unfair, then that becomes a serious issue
The flat tax prevents the very rich guy from buying a third vacation home or an elevator in his garage.
It prevents the poor person from eating.

It is a terrible idea and it will never be passed.
Not even the Republican's could pass it.

How is "the rich" paying exponentially more in taxes under a flat tax, "unfair"??    :o

Isn't it be ironic how the left deplores the idea of a wall, keeping illegal immigrants from coming in, but supports the idea of a wall to keep busineses from getting out.  What a perfect window as to just why the country is going down in both economic & cultural flames

We have discussed the inherent flaws of the flat tax, the "fair" tax ad nauseum. There is no reason to go through that again.
Anyone with a brain knows why it is unfair and will never be passed. It would make as much sense as discussing wall-to-wall carpeting on Guam.

No, actually we haven't.  We've had a littany of emotionally laden arguements that are void of any logic, when you consider that "the rich" pay far more in taxes than the poor, with a flat tax.  The arguement folks like yourself seems to make is that "the rich" need to to feel the pain of paying taxes.  Is that about it?

No, it is not.

I am not going to discuss the stupid flat tax or the "fair" tax ever again, because it is like discussing bringing in a Golden Age in America by spraying  everyone with gilt paint. It won't work, and will never happen and the reasons why are so obvious that a studious Orangutang could understand.

You keep saying that, as if you have "discussed it" before.  Not in any rational way, and this is how you continue to avoid such a rational discussion on it.  "the rich" paying exponentially more than "the poor", under a flat tax system, but somehow that isn't fair??    :o    Yet another example of the left mutating the definition to fit a more politically correct leftist agenda

Why does a large proportion of our economy need to be Government?

Whenever the government is doing something that could be done by nongovernment, the nongovernment agency should be preferred.
