The Goodness in Mankind....
« on: December 17, 2014, 10:38:04 AM »
The media bombards us every day with lots of depressing news, but lets remember there are millions of untold stories of random kindness every single day that never get reported. No matter what the media says there are still millions of great people across the globe that do good deeds not because of some gvt law, but because it is the right thing to do. :)

If it bleeds, it leads.

Just as negative ads get more votes than positive ones.

I agree that there are many stories of kindness and charity that do not make the front page, or sometimes any pages.  But, so what.

The objective of the media is to attract eyeballs to advertising.  If you want a totally optimistic newspaper, I suggest Granma, published by th4e Cuban government. It is filled with wonderful and delightful things Cubans do.

But, so what.

So don't as a general rule of thumb for the average Joe out there become so desensitized
by the daily bombardment of the warped sense of reality the media presents of a negative reality
when in fact that is not anywhere near a true picture of reality.

The news is determined, not by the demand of the consumer, but by the advertiser.  That is why they are spending hours and hours harping on what Bill Cosby is accused of doing thirty years ago, and of course, the dysfunctional Kardassian Clan.

This is true for all the networks other than NPR, BBC, and perhaps Al Jazeera.

A true picture of the total reality is simply impossible. There are six billion people on this planet. All news must select some stories and ignore others.
The US is perhaps 5% of the world's population, but  stories about Americans are at least 50%, and occasionally 100% of all that is broadcast.

Bill Cosby's sex life in the 1970's and Hillary Clinton not driving a car, for example, are essentially worthless news. No one can prosecute Cosby and only some idiot addict of Fox "News" thinks that Hillary driving is even remotely worthy of mention.
