Unless I'm mistaken, I think it can be considered to be a type of "bariatric surgery" you hear about so much as a treatment for obesity.

I am hopefull it is a clue , that the reason it cures turns out to be something that can be caused without such drastic surgury.

When you look at the many other complications and the surgeries that come about because of diabetes, this is really great.  I mean, it's not kidney dialysis, amputation, blindness, etc. 
But I agree.  I hope very soon, they can do something way less drastic.
