Joe Biden has already let you know that a shotgun will fill all your self-defense needs. Now, he's back with another home protection tip: this time, on how to use your twelve gauge when someone is trying to rob you blind and/or harm your family! In an interview with Field & Stream magazine, Biden dropped this little nugget of wisdom on how to deter home invaders. (Disclaimer: don't try this at home.)

F&S: What about the other uses, for self-defense and target practice?

V.P. BIDEN: Well, the way in which we measure it is--I think most scholars would say==is that as long as you have a weapon sufficient to be able to provide your self-defense. I did one of these town-hall meetings on the Internet and one guy said, "Well, what happens when the end days come? What happens when there's the earthquake? I live in California, and I have to protect myself."

I said, "Well, you know, my shotgun will do better for you than your AR-15, because you want to keep someone away from your house, just fire the shotgun through the door." Most people can handle a shotgun a hell of a lot better than they can a semiautomatic weapon in terms of both their aim and in terms of their ability to deter people coming. We can argue whether that's true or not, but it is no argument that, for example, a shotgun could do the same job of protecting you. Now, granted, you can come back and say, "Well, a machine gun could do a better job of protecting me." No one's arguing we should make machine guns legal
.

Sounds like a crock, yes? Indeed it is. As my pal Erika Johnsen over at Hot Air pointed out:

Honestly, did no one bother to inform the vice president, after his first round of similarly awful advice, that just blasting away on the back porch will
1) reveal your position,
2) leave you effectively disarmed,
and
3) possibly get you into some legal trouble?

Yes, that's right: when attempting to defend your home as the Veep suggested, you put yourself at risk for committing negligent homicide with errant shotgun blasts. It's a little remarkable that he's out there prescribing self-defense tactics without having any knowledge of the consequences of such actions--legal or otherwise.

So there you have it, America: this is the man in charge of determining the fate of your guns. God save us all.

Popular Standard Shotgun Could Be Banned Under Proposed Bill

DENVER (CBS4) – A popular hunting shotgun could be banned under one of the bills moving through the state Capitol.

A pump or semi-automatic shotgun is the gun most hunters in Colorado use. It’s a gun state Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Wray, says could be banned under a bill that’s already passed the House and Gov. John Hickenlooper says he’ll sign.

“They’re coming after the standard shotgun,” Brophy told CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun

Brophy says if Democrats succeed in passing a bill limiting large capacity magazines in Colorado, they’ll outlaw the most popular selling firearm for hunting.

“Hundreds of thousands of pheasant hunters are probably going to be carrying around a gun they won’t be able to replace after July 1 this year,” he said.

Brophy points to a section of the bill that defines a high-capacity magazine as one capable of accepting or — that can be readily converted — to accept more than 15 rounds or eight shotgun shells.

“This is where shotgun shells go inside this tube here,” Brophy showed Boyd, “You can screw this part off the top and screw on an extender to this tube to allow it to hold more than eight rounds. It is readily convertible, which by definition in the bill, makes the whole thing a high-capacity magazine.”

Under the 1994 federal ban manufacturers redesigned the gun so the barrel couldn’t be extended. Brophy says it’s unlikely they’d do the same just for Colorado.

“I don’t know if anybody is going to make guns specifically for the five million people living in Colorado,” he said. “We just might not be able to legally purchase a pump shotgun or a semi-automatic shotgun.”

Or sell, transfer or even lend one.

“The law is specific as of July 1. You can keep it, but only if you maintain continuous possession of it,” Brophy said. “If it breaks, you can’t give to a gunsmith even to fix it. You can’t hand it to your son to use. It’s all now outlawed because of this 1224, the bill that Gov. Hickenlooper says he’s going to sign … this is most extreme thing anybody’s ever done related to firearms.”

Boyd asked Senate Democrats about Brophy’s concerns. They sent her a statement saying an amendment dealing with thats issue is currently being drafted and will be presented in a committee hearing Monday. What that amendment looks like and whether it passes remains to be seen.

Seven gun bills are up for hearings in the Senate on Monday

And the madness continues

And yet our Vice Clown is proclaiming: "If there's ever a problem," Biden said he told his wife Jill, "just walk out on the balcony here--walk out, put that double barrel shot gun and fire two blasts outside the house -- I promise you whoever is coming in ... You don't need an AR-15, it's harder to aim, it's harder to use...Buy a shotgun! Buy a shotgun!"

Shotguns for Home Defense - Myths and Realities

I don't agree with all of this guys points, but he is doing a lot better than the Veep.

Joe Biden says women need a shot gun not an ar15 this is why it is the other way around.

Yye after you fire that double barrell two warning shots, you are basicly holding a stick.

A metal stick at least.  At that point though, you'd be better off with a baseball bat.

Indeed

and along that topic of banning and things that cause someone to be offended, IIRC, Washington DC has banned any use of the word "FREEDOM" on their vehicle license plates.      >:(

When they ban bumperstickers, that will be a problem.

FREEDOM has seven letters, most plates allow for only six.

There could not possibly be more than ten ways to misspell the word on a license plate in any recognizable form. And I bet sirs license plate does not read FREEDOM, either. This is no big deal, and barely rises to be a minuscule deal.

What point would that be?

Paying extra for vanity license plates is not going to cause people to clamor for "Freedom". At most, only one person per state could get the word, and then there would be Fredom, Freedm, Friidom and perhaps, Freedumb.

Freedumbo would be misunderstood as anti-Disney.

It is mostly just voluntary taxes. Like the state lottery, a tax on stupid people.

What point would that be?

The point that the word FREEDOM is now somehow as offensive as other words that are banned, such as curse words and slurs.  In Washington DC for crying out loud.  And no, there could be all forms of FREEDOM, with various numbers added in front between, at the end, and then some.  And no its not meant to try to get others to "clamor for it"  It's merely a personalized plate, nothing more.

And on that tangent of FREEDOM.........

Some communities have considered -- or are even passing -- ordinances to make gun ownership mandatory.  Like the Supreme Court, I believe the Second Amendment is a fundamental right, and when the Framers said that it cannot be "infringed," they meant it.

But that's a far cry from a government requiring citizens to make a purchase.  Indeed, one of the chief conservative objections to ObamaCare has been the individual mandate -- a requirement that citizens purchase health insurance.  Just because the Constitution secures a right to gun ownership (but not to health insurance), that doesn't mean that the government has any more business requiring its citizens to purchase guns than it does requiring them to purchase health insurance.

It's a good idea to have health insurance.  It's a good idea to own a gun.  But that doesn't mean that the government has any legitimate power to require us to do either.  Freedom means we're free -- to make our own decisions without government coercion.  And that means that conservatives shouldn't be using government to intrude on individuals to impose policies they favor any more than liberals should

What would be the point of paying extra to have the word FREEDOM on a DC license plate?
Only one person could have this exact spelling.
Anyone is free to make a bumper sticker that says the same thing.

Being required to have a license plate on your car is not an example of freedom. You are required by law to pay for a plate and put it on your car. A totally free person would not have to do that, would he?

I am not against license plates, even vanity plates. But this has zip to do with any sort of freedom.

So what if they pay extra for it??  What's it to you.  Not the issue now is it, either.  And this is not about bumper stickers, that you can put in any nook and cranny on your car, its about personalized plates, that the Government is telling everyone they can't have, because...........

Being required to have a license plate on your car is not an example of freedom.

You seriously can't be that dense.  This isn't about some effort to "sway the masses", or that putting it on your plate is some "example" of freedom.   It's the freedom to put on your license plate anything you want, so long as it isn't offensive

I am not against license plates, even vanity plates. But this has zip to do with any sort of freedom.

Good thing that has nothing to do with this thread now, isn't it     ::)
