I find this amazing. I am unsurprised that they peed on the corpses of their fallen foes.
The Marine Corps attracts a lot of really brave guys, but it also attracts bullies and chickenshits that just don't think.
The really amazing part is that they made a video of it and allowed it to be posted.
That is truly, truly stupid.

I heard about this on the radio, I haven't followed up on it. But geesus krist. If you volunteered for the Marine Corps, and you got shipped to Afghanistan, try and take some advantage of the situation. Look around, there is a vast reservoir of personal intelligence to gather there and draw upon while developing enough compassion, and enough of an educational foundation, to last a life time.

Some develop compassion, others pee on corpses and take videos, it would appear.
It still is not nearly so bad as nuking Iranian civilians, which would be applauded mightily by some we could mention if it occurred.

Anyone developing compassion for people that wanna cut your head off,
kill, maim, and injury American solders as well as target women, children
and schools is a certified whackjob. Oh boowho a couple of marines
pissed on them, but the bearded nazis target and kill children,
bomb weddings and funerals....but the outrage and headlines is
about some piss incident that killed no one.....asinine logic!

INDIANAPOLIS - Colts punter Pat McAfee is sparking outrage and support on Twitter by defending the Marines who were seen on video urinating on the corpses of Taliban fighters.
Two of the four Marines in the YouTube video were identified by the Marine Corps on Thursday , an official told CNN.
McAfee, who tweets under the name PatMcAfeeShow, reacted to the story Thursday afternoon, tweeting, "Soooo people are (expletive)bout our marines peeing on dead taliban??? #WhoCares #ThoseDudesTriedToKillOurDudes."
He followed up with more tweets questioning the controversy.
"We are talking about scum of the earth terrorists... People who are trying to KILL us .. Take our freedom.. Why do people care about them?" he asked. "How many Americans do you think that guy getting (expletive) on killed? How many of those Marines friends died because of those men?"
Some of McAfee's followers then started questioning his stance, one asking him, "How would you feel if they peed on dead Americans?"
"You think they don't?" McAfee responded.
"You have absolutely no filter, do you?" asked another follower.
"Not when I'm right," McAfee answered.
He then clarified that he doesn't believe the video should have been posted, but said he doesn't believe the Marines should be blamed.
"People talking bad about our soldiers who are FIGHTING FOR US is complete (expletive)," he tweeted. "The people who disagree w/ me are people who have no idea what our soldiers go thru..Do some research..You should be endlessly thankful."
"I think that a lot of Americans understand where Pat McAfee is coming from," wrote Chris McNew.
"I agree with Pat. What do you think they would do to American bodies. Afterall, isn't it a war??" Mike Richey posted.
"I agree with Pat!! What do you think they do to us over there!" wrote Laura Leeper Aughe. "They weren't alive, that would be a different story."
But others said U.S. troops should be held to a higher standard and said McAfee should stay off Twitter.
"To everyone agreeing with Pat, you should be ashamed. We have been over there protecting people. This just puts us on their level of hatred," wrote Mike Berry. "I think they should be punished to the fullest. I back our military 110 percent. but not on this one. It was a severe black mark on the Corp."
"These are supposed to be our nation's heros. They should be held to a higher standard.....the highest standard," Carissa Dollar posted. "I can think of no situation where it would be appropriate to disrespect the body of another human being in this way."
"I can't believe there's only one person on here who isn't defending McAfee- those Marines need to punished to the fullest and McAfee should be fired and never work in the NFL again," Christopher Jones posted.
The Colts had not returned a call for comment Thursday evening.
McAfee has been tapped to serve as NBC's social media correspondent for the Super Bowl.

Allen West (a Redleg, which is barely one rung up from a REMF) spent 22 years in the service and retired as only a Lt. Col. That's the rank where they cut out the dead wood. After reading the article though, I'm surprised he made it past Major.

Cashiered Former Army Lieutenant Colonel was not paying attention: there was a LOT of condemnation of both incidents. They made a movie about Black Hawk Down.
And of course, the US purports to be superior to their Muslim enemies and two wrongs do not make a right.

That would make more sense. The primary offended parties were the ones they peed on. Making them sing their Hymn seems to be a rather silly element of a punishment. It borders on the Monty Pythonesque.
The Marines claim that they have identified the FOUR Marines, but there were apparently FIVE, since it is clear from the video that the camera was handheld and not on automatic, because it jiggles too much to have been on a tripod. Taping this was also very, very stupid.

How about a general courts-martial and a less than honorable discharge?
From the time one goes into the military, they are taught that there are certain rules of conduct that are not to be violated, even during wartime. They are also covered under the Uniform Code of Military Justice. What they did was technically desecrating the corpses of the ead enemy. What they could be held up to is a general courts-martial and dismissal from the service, not to mention time in the stockade.
Anything less than that is letting them off light.
What war did you fight in that makes you such an expert on what they go through?

The fact that they did this will in all probability make what their fellow Marines, soldiers and sailors have to go through a lot more difficult.
As for giving them a medal, that would be like rewarding them for puking in the punchbowl.
Anyone who has themselves decorated with such a hideous tattoo would appear to have something wrong with him.
I had the same conclusion about Tupac Shakur's ghastly "THUG LIFE" tattoo.
People have the right to get ugly tattoos, but that does not cause me to take them seriously.

War is a serious business. It's not a place for children to play games. Peeing on enemy corpses is about as childish as you can get. And as XO pointed out, that kind of thing makes a bad situation worse.
There was a Marine unit in Vietnam, often referred to as the Walking Dead, that desecrated some NVA corpses in 1966. That unit was mauled continually by the NVA for the next 4 years.
Not doing things like that falls minimally under the heading of Enlightened Self Interest.

It cannot serve except to defeat the image and the reason we are in Afghanistan in the first place.
