WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, who announced his resignation the day after Republicans lost the House and Senate, said an emotional good-bye Friday to Pentagon employees at his last town hall meeting.
He has one more week in the job. He will be replaced Dec. 18, when Robert Gates takes the oath of office. The department will hold a departure ceremony next Friday.
Rumsfeld, 74, answered many questions with his characteristically good humor. Asked how he wanted history to remember him, he quipped, "Better than the local press."
