Huck slams Palin er..... Portman

Huck rips Portman's pregnancy
By: Maggie Haberman
March 3, 2011 07:23 PM EST

Mike Huckabee laced into Oscar winner Natalie Portman for her "out-of-wedlock" pregnancy, saying the expecting star is helping to "glamorize" single motherhood.

Huckabee made the comments on conservative commentator Michael Medved's radio show this week, after Portman accepted her golden trophy and in her speech thanked her fiance, Benjamin Millepied, for giving her "my most important role of my life."

Medved led the way on the question, saying the "most wonderful gift" Millepied could have given the diminutive Black Swan star "would be a wedding ring! And it just seems to me that sending that kind of message is problematic."

Huckabee said he hadn't seen the Oscars telecast, but added, "What's troubling is that people see a Natalie Portman or some other Hollywood starlet who boasts of, 'Hey look, you know, we're having children, we're not married, but we're having these children, and they're doing just fine,' Media Matters reported on its website

"But there aren't really a lot of single moms out there who are making millions of dollars every year for being in a movie," he added.

"And I think it gives a distorted image that yes, not everybody hires nannies, and caretakers, and nurses. Most single moms are very poor, uneducated, can't get a job, and if it weren't for government assistance, their kids would be starving to death and never have health care. And that's the story that we're not seeing, and it's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children."

He added, "You know, right now, 75 percent of black kids in this country are born out of wedlock. 61 percent of Hispanic kids ? across the board, 41 percent of all live births in America are out-of-wedlock births. And the cost of that is simply staggering."

Huckabee's comments came at a time when much of the 2012 field appears to be following the lead of Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, who called for a "truce" on social issues last year. Instead, the economy is dominating as an issue this cycle.

The comments came on the Feb. 28 "Michael Medved Show," but weren't reported until Thursday.

Unlikely that Huck will get Portman's vote, if he runs for President

Personally, he wouldn't be my 1st choice.  Likely wouldn't even crack my top5, and even more unlikely he'd win the GOP nod.

But if by some political miracle he did...................

I kinda knew that as well.  It was more of a rhetorical question for me.  Sorry for the confusion

You of course are free to vote for whomever you like.

Confused by title?
Are you saying Palin "glamorized" unwed motherhood?
I think Palin if anything may have praised "not having an abortion" which is something totally different.

Also why would you not vote for Huckabee in a general election against Obama?

If memory serves Palin's daughter was an unwed mother. Think the Huckster was going for a two-fer when he was scolding Ms. Portman? Reminding all what a sinning family the Palins are?
What was Reagan's 11th Comandment?

And no i won't vote for Huckabee even if that means Obama gets a second term.

Huckabee's fiscal record is atrocious and i would rather make sure that fiscal conservatives keep the house and capture the senate.

And i'm just not in the mood for a social conservative squandering the possibly last chance  to right the economic ship of the U.S. by misguided divisive preaching about things that frankly are not his business.

Not sure I am understanding what your point is
I think Huckabee was simply speaking the truth
that I am sure Gov Palin would agree with
that pregnancy out of wedlock is not ideal nor
usually a good thing for the mother, child or society as the facts clearly show
but with that said....it is going to happen....but just should not be glamorized

if given the choice of Huckabee or Obama I think it is ashame you would
give Obama a second term rather that vote for an imperfect Huckabee

How did Portman glamorize an out of wedlock pregnancy?
By thanking her fiance ?

I don't have the power to elect or unelect Obama.
I do have the power to vote my convictions.
I don't see the need to settle for less.
You may, but that would be your choice.

I did not say she did....and I am glad to hear she plans on getting married.
I did not see the show, nor do I even hardly know who this lady is.
But I am assuming her appearance on the show may have made an unsaid statement
and thats what Gov Huckabee was speaking about......you pretend "its none ya bideness"
And it may not be in this particular case because the unwed Mother is some rich actress
But it sure as hell is Gov Huckabee's and my business if all these unwed Mothers are
gonna come running to the taxpayers for help when they cant support themselves.
Are we to sit down and shut-up and just write the hand-out checks?...are we not
allowed to have an opinion about irresponsibility....just send in the money to cover it?

I do have the power to vote my convictions.
I don't see the need to settle for less.

So who is ths candidate that you agree with on 100% of the issues?

That is a separate issue than status of wedlock. BTW can you show where Huckabee, when governor of Arkansas, instituted programs where aid applicants were encouraged to either get married or stay married and not be penalized for doing so? Because current welfare regulations by default encourage the break up of families in order to meet income requirements.

It's early. I can tell you Huckabee and Newt are off my list of potentials.
