Obama calls the shot

Lets face it my fellow Republicans.

The more  Obama makes us mad, the more we settle for the easy win.

If Obama wants Romney as an opponent he can make it so.

Electing a blowhard, a goober or a Gingrich would be harder, and it would hardly benefit the country.

Romney is the second-best qualified candidate, after Huntsman.

If only Huntsman were qualified to be a Republican.

Huntsman is a traditional Republican. The rest of them are rightwing reactionary loons.

Above all, a willingness to compromise with the Democrats, and not to press extreme issues like no abortions or gay marriages for anyone. The traditional Republican favors Main Street over Wall Street and considers Birchers and people like Cato and the Koch Brothers to be extremists.

Why are libertarians considered extremists?

That would be because they are at the extreme of the political scale, as are the Communists.

No state has ever been entirely Libertarian, just as none has ever been purely Communistic.

That makes both of them extreme, in the same way that ultraviolet and infrared are at the extremes.

Your question is revealing, by the way.

Hehehehehe!

I totally disagree.

Being diffrent from the Democrats is the origional reason to exist for the Republicans.

Might as well wish for Democrats that are willing to compromise , but if we had that the people would have to sue the government for being a monolith, can anti trust legislation be used against a government monopoly?

........and not to press extreme issues like ..........

Like abolition of slavery?

Pressing issues as difficult as these is the origin of the party, Democrats are the origional go along to get along party.

When you advocate a return to Republican tradition you have to specify an era , Lincon era , Cooledge era, Goldwater era or whatever.

The Republicans originally were an amalgamation of the Whigs, the abolitionists and the Know Nothing Party anti-immigrationists. After the Civil War, they were the party of the Robber Barons. Then they were Isolationists. Now they favor free trade and an end to import duties. So they have someone that will actually vote for them, they attract the goobers with anti-abortion, anti-immigrant, lumpenproletarian union-busting rhetoric.

There have been many changes in the makeup of the party, but the retail business class Whigs have been a constant element.

Eisenhower was what I would call a typical Republican viewpoint. Huntsman would make an adequate president.I am somewhat leery of Romney. All the rest are total screamers.

Eisenhour is unique, he could have picked either party and won the presidency.

I like Eisenhour fine, but how does he especially represent Republican tradition better than any other?

Do you really know what length of gap there was between the Wig party falling apart and the Republican party forming? The connection is very tenuous , no continuity to speak of.

The know nothings didn't want to be Republicans , I don't see the connection there at all, the Republicans were the radicals in power at the time why were the Know nothings opposed to the power in place and then join it?

The Democrats were pretty much the party out of power for a generation after the Civil war. The struggle became one between the Stalwart Republicans and the Radical Republicans.

In my estimation the most "traditional" or the best example of traditional Republican would be Chester Arther or Taft.
I like Cooledge too but we just can't produce enough like him to call him traditional.

============================
The Know nothings came before the Republicans. Some of them surely became supporters of Lincoln and Fremont. However, they were extremely anti-immigrant, just as Pat Buchanon is extremely anti-immigrant and the Republican state legislatures of Alabama and Arizona are extremely anti-immigrant. They were also anti-Catholic and ant-Irish as well. These days, no one is anti-Irish and few are anti-Catholic in political terms.
