2 cents on Newt
« on: January 27, 2012, 07:16:41 PM »
Ok, we've seen the endless supply of debates, both stacked against the GOP, via the left leaning moderators, and those more interested in policies & platforms they'd attempt to impliment to try and pull us out of this Obamabyss

It's been wholly unfair, and inappropriate to have been trying to dump on Newt for his supposed Anti-Regan era of legislating & rhetoric.  I recall the days, and many others I've heard do as well....Newt was staunchly conservative, and has always been that way.  he's been a huge Reagan supporter, while Mitt has openly campaigned in the past, as being "an independent", and not looking to return to the Regan/Bush years.  It's wholly unfair and inaccarate to try and caricature him as some lefty/moderate wannabe or wasabe

That said, Newt's doing more and more to disaude me of his ability to be President.  Not in how he'd be as CiC.  He'd be superior to our current resident, but in his tactics at going after Romney.  Instead of sticking to conservative platforms and tactics in addressing Romney's attacks, he's more often using leftiest diatribes of class warfare and "anti-immigrant" to rebutt Romney.  That's something I can easily see Obama doing, but Newt??

That's not how to win over those you need to get the nomination, Newt.  Conservatives are far more saavy than you're giving them credit for

SIRS....here's my take.

I love Newt
I'd volunteer in the fall to work at his campaign
I think he'd be 1000 times better than Obama

My huge problem with Newt is I dont think there's
snowball's chance in hell he could win in Nov.

Newt is Newt....he's smart....he's a good debater
but he's gonna eventually piss a bunch of people off.
He's prone to alienate people.

Romney may not seem too conservative standing next to
the other Republicans that have been up on the debate stage
But Romney is gonna look real conservative standing next to Obama.

Newt would get most of the voters that voted for McCain
But thats not gonna cut it.
Romney will get the McCain votes plus people that are in the middle.

Many Americans are itching to vote for anybody but Obama
Romney gives them that chance to play it safe and vote against Obama,
Newt on the other hand worries them....

The election needs to be about Obama
but with Newt it's gonna be a lot about him.

We win if the election is about Obama.

If the economy stays soft Romney will beat Obama handily.

I've already referenced the huge throng of folks I personally know or listen to, who did vote for Obama (for whatever reason, be it anti-Bush, pro "hope and change", wanting new leadership, caught up in the "1st Black president", etc), but are so disenchanted, if not disgusted, at what he has done, they'll vote for Romney in a hearbeat, and Newt, only if they had to.

Bottom line is Obama only has his base of hard core leftists, and even many of them are disillusioned because he didn't go left enough in Obamination Care, or closing Gitmo, or a whole host of other leftist causes.  That's why you have Obama completely ignoring his record as president, and trying to make this election about personality, and "fairness"

But you are right, "it's the economy, stupid".  And if the economy has some recovery, despite the gasoline Obama thru on it, he'll get relected.  If it continues to tank & unemployment remains stagnant, it'll be a GOP President with a likely GOP Congress

BUT..................I would NOT be surprised if Obama launches some pre-emptive military attack on Iran's nuclear sites, using likely the "same intel" Bush used to take us into Iraq.  The difference being it'd likely involve far fewer troops, but be an ongoing act, necesistating a need to "rally around the President, in a time of war".  I'm just saying......I would not be surprised, especially if his poll #'s stay as bad as they are
