The bets you could do is read LOTS of the best novels of this sort you can find. Take notes on the plot structure, and sentence construction, as well as how to build up the suspense.

I do not see a relation between military novels and sangria. I am more fond of sangria

sangria is red wine mixed with fizzy drink, lemons and other fruit.

It is red, and looks like blood
