The reason for the tax
« on: December 06, 2012, 06:05:00 AM »
http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2012/11/29/why-democrats-really-want-republicans-to-cave-on-taxes/?intcmp=obnetwork

This makes sense .

I really appreaciate this article , I had considered the "tax the rich" movement as a purely political play, but this article condenses my thought.

But it is, the revenue it promises is not serious money in terms of government debt, a "spit inthe ocean" but the political consequences are potentially usefull even if the money really isn't.

Detaching the GOP from Norquist and the idiot teabaggers would be a boon to everyone. Democrats, Republicans and the country in general. Much like throwing David Duke and his Klansmen pals out of the GOP several decades ago.

Some undisclosed fatcat  recently paid the conman Dick Armey $4 million to get the hell out of his teabagger movement.

No one needs Grover effing Norquist and his repulsive pledge. He is the financial equivalent of David Duke. To Hell with jim and the horse he rode in on.
No one elected this fool, nor could he be elected by anyone, anywhere in this country.

Every Republican in the congress got elected after signing the pledge to avoid raising taxes.

Republicans are much more demanding voters than Democrats, if you can't keep a promise to the electorate , do not make the promise to the electoriate.

President Obama does not close camp X-ray in Guantanimo and carrys on the war in Iraq a cupple more years , no big deal.

President Bush 41 makes a tax deal , after an election promise not to, and can't find a majority anymore.

Oh, get real, Plane.

The President would have closed  Guantanamo, but Congress would not vote the funds to do this. The President does not have the power to close Guantanamo and move the prisoners.  Anyone who understands the way the government works knows this.

Olebush, on the other hand DID have the power to veto a tax increase, and did not do so.

It was stupid for Olebush to make his "read my lips" statement, like he was Clint Eastwood in some movie. He was clearly smart enough to realize that no president knows all the facts before he has actually taken office. Do not make forceful statements unless you realize the consequences, especially about some policy that could affect everyone.

Every voter pays taxes. Taxes affect everyone.

No voters have relatives in Guantanamo. No one is personally affected whether some Yemeni is incarcerated in Cuba or in Leavenworth.

There were LOTS of reasons not to reelect Olebush. His "read my lips" statement was not why I chose Clinton over him.

Democrat majorites the 1st 2 years....carte blanche to do just about anything they wanted.  The continued claim that Obama coudln't do what he promised falls flat in the face of FACTS

The Bullcrap is the continued claim that Obama couldn't do anything the 1st 2 years directly because of Republican obstruction, when FACTUALLY Dems had control of EVERYTHING, including on off & on super majority in the Senate for his 1st 6+months

THAT'S A FACT....which also translates into Obama could have kept pretty much every promise, including Gitmo and "comprehensive immigration reform"

No it is NOT a fact. Obama had a supermajority in the Senate for only a few weeks, and many Democrats were opposed to bringing the ostensible "terrorists" into the US. President Obama did all he could to close Guantanamo, but he could not do so because of Democrats who, unlike Republicans, did not obey the party line.

It costs tons more money to keep prisoners in Guantanamo, and it is perfectly logical to close it down.

I am thorough discussing this with you because you do not have a clue as to what happened, as always.

No it is NOT a fact.

YES, it is.  But at least you're now conceding that it was bipartisan opposition to Obama wanting to close Gitmo or initiating some form of comprehensive immigration reform.  If you had started with that to begin with, you'd have rehabbed your credibility just a tad.  But at leat your concession is a start

Do you mean that Canadate Obama was stupid to make this promise , or that the people who believed him were stupid?

President Obama does not close camp X-ray in Guantanimo and carrys on the war in Iraq a cupple more years , no big deal.

I think that every president that this country has ever had believes that he will have more power as president than he really does. Perhaps LBJ was an exception, because he knew the House and Senate very well. Perhaps Obama should have been less emphatic about what to do about Guantanamo.

Guantanamo is far less important to the average American than the taxes he pays.
Only the ratbag right keeps harping on this, I note.

Personally, we should shut Guantanamo down as soon as possible. But Congress is the problem, not the President. So far as I am concerned, the President has done all he could do.

That is my point, liberals are terrifficly easy to please , president Obama can make many vague promises and keep very few of them. The left seems happy that the moon has been promised , that it is impossible to deliver isn't upsetting in the least.
