Cease Virtual Fire
« on: December 22, 2012, 11:01:47 AM »
The founder of a video game website said he expects tens of thousands of players of online shooter games to participate in a 24-hour cease-fire that started at noon Friday. Antwand Pearman, founder of GamerFitNation, said the cease-fire is meant to show respect for those killed in the Newtown shooting. He said video games don't cause violence.

If video games don't cause violence, then what is the point of his shutting down his operation?

I can't give you a real answer.

This is an interesting question I want to discuss .

I have played a bit of "World of Warcraft" and it is a lot of fun.

I note that some of the shooters in the past have played a lot "shooter" games.

I don't think that it adds a lot to the danger , but it is hazy enough that I might be wrong.

I don't think that video games make most people more violent. They do seem to affect a few people this way, though.
The same seems to be true of violent films.

Video games and violent films also appeal to those people who have violent personalities.

Perhaps Mr. Pearman is an advocate of meaningless symbolic gestures.

"Meaningless symbolic" has got to be an oximoron.

It seems to me to be just a PR move.

The same video games are played all over the world.
