OMG...what's this country coming to??
« on: January 04, 2013, 06:52:09 PM »
I mean...a majority of people thinking that their kids would be safer if there was.....*gasp*.....a gun on the campus??  Oh the horror!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fifty-four percent (54%) of American adults would feel safer if their child's school had an armed security guard. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 26% would feel safer if their child attended a school where no adults were allowed to have guns. Another 20% are undecided.

Among parents of school-aged children, support for armed guards is even higher. Sixty-two percent (62%) of such parents would feel safer with an armed security guard at the school, while 22% would feel safer if their child attended a gun-free school.

Survey says.......

Good gravy, how dare folks try to defend themselves with a gun.  I mean, no one saves their life with use of a gun.....or so we've been told

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Woman hiding with kids shoots intruder

LOGANVILLE, Ga. -  A woman hiding in her attic with children shot an intruder multiple times before fleeing to safety Friday.

The incident happened at a home on Henderson Ridge Lane in Loganville around 1 p.m. The woman was working in an upstairs office when she spotted a strange man outside a window, according to Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman. He said she took her 9-year-old twins to a crawlspace before the man broke in using a crowbar.

But the man eventually found the family.

"The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he's staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver," Chapman told Channel 2’s Kerry Kavanaugh.

The woman then shot him five times, but he survived, Chapman said. He said the woman ran out of bullets but threatened to shoot the intruder if he moved.

"She's standing over him, and she realizes she's fired all six rounds. And the guy's telling her to quit shooting," Chapman said.

The woman ran to a neighbor's home with her children. The intruder attempted to flee in his car but crashed into a wooded area and collapsed in a nearby driveway, Chapman said.

Deputies arrested 32-year-old Atlanta resident Paul Slater in connection with the crime. Chapman said they found him on the ground saying, "Help me. I'm close to dying." Slater was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment.  Chapman said Slater was shot in the face and neck.

In February, Slater was arrested on simple battery charges, according to the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office. He has been arrested six other times in the county since 2008.

Kavanaugh was the first reporter at the scene as deputies investigated. The victim's husband told Kavanaugh he's proud of his wife. He was on the phone with her as the intruder broke in.

"My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as responsible, prepared gun owner," Donnie Herman said.

He said he's thankful for his family's safety.

"Her life is saved, and her kids' life is saved, and that's all I'd like to say," Herman said.

Channel 2’s Amy Napier Viteri learned from Chapman late Friday night that slater has been placed on a ventilator and suffers from punctured lungs, a punctured liver and a punctured stomach.

He said if Slater survives the night, doctors will try to operate in the morning to repair the damage.

Chapman said Slater has four exit wounds.

Slater is currently being charged with burglary.

Good for her!

She and her children might be strangled, raped, stabbed...dead, dead, dead if XO had his way!
Shame on XO for wanting to leave law abiding citizens defenseless against horrible crimes!
We will not allow this to happen!

I suggest that after shooting the guy five times, she might need more practice.

So perhaps "prepared" is not entirely the correct description. As I said previously, in a crisis situation, more training is required than people think.

Again, spoken out of ignorance.  You keep shooting until the threat stops being a threat.  Simple as that.  Not everyone is some expert marine sniper that can put one between the eyes, given time, in a stressful situation.  Nor do I need to echo BsB's references of how apparently piss poor police officers are at shooting, and the number of rounds they let loose.....and they do get a fairly rigorous amount of training

"Prepared" is very well applied here....in that she HAD a firearm to begin with, kept it safe from the twins, and used it until the threat was no more.

Again, this is the difference between those who are ignorant about firearms & their usage, and those who are not

No , she got hits, that is success, and she survived which is the real goal.

She ran into the kind of problem you get with small caliber and small magazine.

I bet she buys something larger next time, incase she has to deal with two.

Those who are ignorant about firearms would seem to be the sort that can shoot someone five times and leave him in a condition in which he could drive away.

The fact she hit him 5 out of 6 shots is damn good.  Better than most police officers.  Why you think anyone with a firearm should be able to shoot like a marine sniper is pretty......outrageous.....and ignorant of how guns are used for self defense, in the 1st place.  You shoot until the threat is no longer a threat

She knows more about firearms today than she did last week.

And what diffrence do you think she will want in her next gun?

Either more power or more magazine would be my guess.

What she needs is better training, not another gun.

Naaa, what she did was exactly, what she should have done.  No more training "needed", unless she thinks she needs more.  5 out of 6 shots hitting its target is damn good, and better than most police officer involved shootings, who's officers are provided far more training.  If anything "needed", is exactly what Plane referenced, more firepower in the firearm, or a larger number of rounds.....such as a semiautomatic weapon, with an optional greater than 10-round capacity.

Ironically, kinda like what the Dems are trying to prevent her and anyone else from having.  Brilliant     :o

Better training to acheive what?

In combat ,she got 85% hits , who is going to train her , Sgt. York?

Perhaps she should be training police officers
