As a commercial designed to sell an expensive car to a rich guy pushing 50 or so, it is probably a very effective commercial. It reflects the way such people think, despite the fact that the US did not cease to go to the Moon because it was "boring", and a Cadillac is no better and probably not much worse than the BMW, Mercedes and Audi it competes with and probably many times better than a Range Rover, which has horrible repair records.

Cadillacs are not for everyone, because not everyone can make the payments.

    So the French are allowed to buy a Cadillac , but this commercial probably won't sell it there.

    It might never be translated exactly into good French.

   Instead a commercial about how nice it is to tour in a Cadillac for your August vacation.

But isn 't the french economy slowing down abit. I also notice quite alot of french folks living in the U.S. . True none of them are complaining about france but none are talking about going back. I personally know several who got fired due to work performance but as a canadian my opinion would be abit biased.

P.S. In a few years america will lose it's bragging rights about the moon to russia and china. At best we can say we're the first but that's as far we can on the subject of space travel .from now on our astronaunts we'll require other countries for travel .

I spent three weeks in France, in Paris, Pau and Burgundy. I saw many an odd car there: Daihatsus, Skodas, Ladas, Austins, NSUs and Wartburgs. I saw Chevrolets, Opels, Vauxhalls, a Buick and even an aged Pontiac, though it was sitting up on blocks.  I did NOT see a single Cadillac. I did see the turnoff to the town of Cadillac on the highway between Pau and Bordeaux, but if there is a market for Cadillacs in France, it is recent.

I don't really like the persona in this commercial, he is a smug prick, but since there are many such smug pricks with money, it makes sense for Cadillac to cater to them.

uhm

it`s a human trait that we admire prickish behaviour. the internet is a perfect example duo to it`s autonomy people act very french and say everything thats on thier mind with no care how it hurts others.

Outside of the actor's over the top performance, which was kind of necessary to "drive" home the point (pun intended) was to emphasize the importance of actually WORKING for what you want.  If you want all the bells and whistles, whether its in a car, surround sound, home, whatever, what's it to anyone else, that someone works harder and perhaps takes less vacation days to acquire, what they actually want?

Americans like to think they are exceptional. Some are, most are not. Just like the French, the Germans and the Canadians.

Opinion on probably put aside, along with the point that this isn't specific to "exec's", by definition of getting more vacation means he doesn't have to work quite as hard now, does he, which is kind of the point of the commercial

The idea put forth here is that the person portrayed by the actor DESERVES a Cadillac, because, unlike the sissy French, he gets no decent vacation.

Of course, he deserves a Cadillac, because that way he can be more comfy waiting in traffic for two weeks time every year.

The Frenchman who lives in any sizable French city does not need a car: he takes the Metro in Paris, Leon or Marseilles. You can get from anywhere in the 20 arrondissements of Paris to anywhere else in that area within 30 minutes maximum. And you won't have to pay for parking, either.

Les Françaises, ils sont les vraiment exceptionnelles! Zut alors!

Wrong.......the idea is that if you wark hard enough, you can aquire a cadillac, if you indeed want all the bells & whistles.  NOTHING at all to do with deserving
