Clarified water still needs disinfection
« on: May 07, 2015, 07:49:21 PM »

Chaindropz (I happen to know) made his living for years clarifying water for industrial purposes.

He is also a very good amateur photographer, check his blog entries for wildlife pictures.

Muddy water emergency

 prepare for treating water

Place a one lb bag of Alum, pickling lime and Soda ash or arm and hammer baking soda and a container that can be used for boiling water into a 5 gal. Food grade bucket from Lowes. You should have room for some activated charcoal and a Miox kit

This is not to be used under flooding of city streets wait for bottled water.

It is highly recommended not to use muddy water but try this before straining it with your teeth.

The procedure below will clear most of the mud from the water and it may possibly look drinkable but it is filled with living organisms the cleared water may protect your filter from clogging as fast.

This measurement could be strong for dingy water and not strong enough for extremely muddy water it takes a little trial and error but it is easy to take the mud out

Stir 1 table spoon each of Pickling lime, Alum and soda ash or (Arm and Hammer baking soda as a poor substitution) to a Lowe’s food grade 5 gal bucket of muddy water. Use a butter churn like paddle to stir this water for as long as you can or 3 minutes or more then allow the mud to settle out of the water in 30 min. Or more.. This is for water that is relatively free of blue green algae. Carefully pour or dip the cleared water off the top into another container then dump the mud. .You must also have a good filter and chemical disinfectant that you would be required to use to treat clear water from any stream.
