No one is saying she can't keep her scruples. Please do keep them. Quit your $80,000 a year job rather than perform it as required. Show us you have the resolve to do so. That I could applaud. Trying to find ways around it and still keep her job, not so much.

I am sorry I was not clear at all.

She is not going to loose her scruple, that office will.

We could use a scruple free government.

How is refusing to issue a marriage license to people she does not even know related in any way to scruples?

With her or without her they will get a license and they will get married.

Her paycheck comes from the state of Kentucky, not God.  God is not an elected official of Kentucky and he has been mute on all subjects for thousands of years.

So...she should go to jail for blatantly ignoring the law, that she was sworn to uphold......right?  Just trying to get our ducks in a row, here

If she feels she can no longer perform those duties according to the law, the choice is hers, resign or go to jail for contempt. Instead she keeps trying to find ways to wriggle out of it and keep her paycheck. I guess her scruples don't extend that far.

I completely agree......which is why I'm still scratching my head as to where are the calls for those mayors of Sanctuary Cities to either resign of face jail time.  Our current Community Organizer & Chief appears to have no problem in blatantly ignoring a plethora of immigration laws, even writing executive orders that clearly violate the Constitution, per his own words.  Yet, not a peep of reference to any repercussions he should be held to.......if we're looking for consistency of course.  And this isn't aimed at you Hnumpah....more of a general observation.  No Public Official should be above the law, right?

I have no problem with tossing mayors, city councils, police chiefs or even entire police departments in jail for refusing to enforce federal laws, but that was not the topic of this particular thread so I didn't mention it.

One of these days I might offer a general post on my opinions on different hot topics du jour.

Nahhhh, probly piss too many people off.

The Bible does not have anything to say about CIVIL MARRIAGES. I am pretty sure they would see them as unGodly and invalid. Mary and Joseph were not married by a Justice of the peace in the Nazereth City Hall.

There are no priests, rabbis, rebbes, ministers, pastors, vicars or shamans involved. This is about issuing a civil document of the State of Kentucky.

This is about Public Servants, be they county clerks, Mayors, or even Presidents, not being above the law, they've sworn to uphold and abide by.  If this clerk can be held into contempt for refusing to abide by her lawful duties, why can't the president?  Is he "special"?  Is he above the law?  How about the mayor of San Franciso? ...of Los Angeles?  Are they above the law?

Indeed......is that the one where he was hung...but didn't die?  Came back to exact his revenge on all those that failed at a rather simple task?

What does the Bible say about CIVIL MARRIAGES?

Nothing, nothing at all!  Most religions do not recognize them, as God is not involved.

So this woman's reasoning is faulty. In the Bible only RELIGIOUS WEDDINGS are mentioned.

She hears The Voice, but she does not understand that The Voice does not care about the State of Kentucky recognizing marriages.

Yep yep yep...hanging, though, isn't quite as simple as it seems. If the knot isn't placed properly, or the victim doesn't drop far enough, the neck isn't broken cleanly. What generally happens then is slow strangulation, but occasionally a victim will survive. I could care less about 'cruel and unusual' and how much the condemned person suffers during the execution process, whatever method is used, since they generally had no regard for the suffering of their victims, so if they kick and twitch a while, well, bummer.
