Biden drops a bomb......right on top of Obama

We all grasp the overt hypocrisy in play, regarding the vacant SCOTUS seat.  And one more time, the GOP isn't preventing Obama from his Consitutional duties.  He can nominate whatever farleft fascist-of-a-judge he wants.  The Senate has the Constitutional option of considering the nomination, or deferring it

We all saw how the left, was front and center declaring how Bush's nominees should not be voted on, until after the 2007 elections.  Obama even took part in a filibuster to try and prevent Alito from being confirmed

Well, roll back the tape....in 1992, then Senator Biden went even further.   Not only didn’t he want a vacancy filled, not only didn’t he want the Judiciary Committee to even hold hearings on a nomination, he wanted then Bush 41 to decline making a nomination altogether "once the political season is underway"

It's bad now, C.  Politicians appear to believe they live in a bubble, where anything they said prior, especially on the floor of the Senate, was somehow deleted like Clinton's e-mails.  One after the other after the other, from C-Span's archives, including Reid, in 2005, making it painfully clear that "The duties of the United States Senate are set forth in the Constitution of the United States. Nowhere in that document does it say the Senate has a duty to give presidential nominees a vote."

It doesn't matter. The obligation is for the President to name someone and for the Senate to consider it seriously.
The idea that there should be a "Scalia Memorial Conservative Seat" that many rightwingers want is erroneous.

It absofrellinloutly matters.   And no one is claiming Obama can't name who wver the hell he wants.  Per messers Schumer, Reid, Obama, and now Biden, Senate has no constitutional mandate to even hold hearings,  much less vote

  Elections matter, it is the result of elections that the Senate is packed with Republicans.


  Republicans who are beginning to be dimly aware that they were elected to be active , and the electorate is so far, disappointed .

The Constitution demands that the Senate advise and consent. It does not say that it gets to sit on its ass and do nothing.

   I expect a fight in which the main effort will be for the Republicans and Democrats to embarrass themselves and each other.

  If the Democrats expect better treatment for the prospective justice than Bork or Thomas got , then they expect better of Republicans than they expect of themselves.

Biden was right when he spoke as a Senator, politics works against the fairness of the system.

How is it incorrect?  Especially since a Democrat said.  Other SENIOR Democrats were saying the same thing......when it was a Republican in the White House.  Care to confess your hypocrisy now?

  This is a good thing to fuss about , but the cards are all face up now.
    The fussing is for its own sake.


   For the Democrats this is very low stakes.

    If the next president is a Republican the Democrats are no worse off than they were two weeks ago.

      If the next president is a Democrat the nominees will be from the same short list BHO has in his binders.
        How could the stakes be lower?




  By the way , I just bet many of the potential nominees are women. Barak H. Obama must have binders full of women to look thru right now.

It is the job of the Senate to follow the Constitution. It is clarely their duty to give the nominee a hearing.  Scalia would have to have ruled that way, it was clearly what the Founders meant.
