Tuition might go up
« on: June 17, 2016, 10:44:30 AM »
Ive been very ignorant of certain realties and one of them is americans desire for a education. I really thought the notable lack of motivation would nartually control the amount of students going to college. I totally ignore the harsh reality alot of these kids are bankrupting themselves to get an education they are not able to learn.

Now to what I'm getting at the stoplight is on campus safety and it's looking very much like the school have been very bad at this. The bright spot is these students have already proven they'll risk anything to go so I thought maybe in the near future tuition will get another rapid increase to deal student safety issue like lawsuits. Sort of a malpractice insurance fir schools

university is basically a way for many to stall going to work and leaving childhood
many of the degrees are simply worthless as far as earning a living
trade schools should be more emphasized vs getting degrees in child development or art history

im under the impression one of the serious problems in education is the various classes like art history is never pushed. as an asian the majority of our kids are taught only what is seemed useful classes and as a result we do get jobs but because we`re undereducated we will never progress very far up. notice  we`re the least creative people around and never people you go to make things better.

yes we`re lacking in the trades but also what alot of seemingly useless areas of education. In the law firm I notice alot of attorneys who also major in art history, eng. lit. and philosophy . I very much doubt it`s a coincidence. last i checked the education in europe is a good deal varied than ours and art is not removed for something pracitical.

i do agree college is away to avoid work and I envy that since i still worked when I was in college

Education is not the same as training for employment.
Training is essential, but if there is no cultural enrichment a person cannot  be considered educated.

cultural enrichment is a hard sell to a parent not student who wants thier kid to be employable.

The general idea of a Liberal Arts Education is that a person be both culturally enriched as well as employable,

Lately people got a very wrong idea what a liberal arts major is and how extremely useful it is. It's one of the most employable majors . Math and science is a liberal art

The term Liberal Arts comes from the study schemes of universities in the Medieval Epoch:
First you studied the Trivium: Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric (usually in Latin)
Then you studied the Quadrivium: Arithmetic, Geometry, Music and Astrology (later, astronomy)
Astronomy replaced astrology in Spain around the latter half of the 1700's. In England, Italy and France this was about 100 years earlier.
Alchemy was often dabbled with by some astronomers, and later evolved into Chemistry.

The three subjects of the Trivium plus the four of the Quadrivium made up the seven Liberal Arts

Medicine, pharmacy, and law were generally learned as apprenticeships.
Commerce (business) was not an academic study at all: If your father was a shopkeeper or trader, you learned it from him.
Obviously the non academic subjects never had any sort of agreed up[on curriculum, so progress was very slow.

I have had that Boss , that one who is the boss because that is the only position in the division he knows how to do.

As a Civil servant this happens to me repeatedly.

There is no way to have too many engineers and technicians, too many salesmen is rare , too many chiefs happens a lot.

Salesmen are self-regulating: if they do not earn enough in commissions, they quit.

My college certainly has a lot of overpaid fools as administrators. They donl;t give them any power or budget, but they do pay them well.

Most of them were pretty awful as instructors. And their knowledge of the Liberal Arts was utterly pathetic.

i have many friends in the public sector and the complaints we hear can be scary and does answer why we have budgetary problems. One dept for years consistantly was able to spend below budget then at last year review it stopped the supervisors ask what happened and the answer was they finally the wall on how far they can squeeze and save money. The supervisor somehow thought that dept could eternally spend less every year and couldn't understand thiers a limit. It actually tooks Some time to explain to them.
