Madame Tussauds new branch in Berlin
« on: July 05, 2008, 08:44:27 PM »
BERLIN (AP) ? A man tore off the head of a wax figure of Hitler at Madame Tussauds? new branch in Berlin in what appeared to be a symbolic protest at the museum?s opening on Saturday, officials said.

The police said the man, who was not identified, had shoved aside two museum employees and then ripped the head off the likeness of Hitler.

The police said they arrested the man, who told them he was protesting the display of the Hitler figure.

The man was the second customer to enter the museum, according to an employee, Stephan Koch, who said that he and a colleague had unsuccessfully tried to prevent the man from jumping over a table in front of the figure and damaging it.

The man, a Berlin resident, faces charges of causing damage to property and bodily harm, said a police spokesman, Bernd Schodrowski.

Mr. Koch said that the damaged Hitler figure had been removed, and that the museum had remained open. Another museum official, Nathalie Ruoss, said officials would decide on Monday what to do with the figure.

One of the wax VIPs, former Chancellor Helmut Kohl, was quoted by the Bild daily as saying that "I never gave my consent" to his own figure.

The newspaper reported that Kohl, who has been recovering from a fall, had requested that he be allowed to approve his portrayal ? and that its exhibition be delayed if necessary.

"This is all very frivolous and lacking in decency," Kohl said, according to Bild. "I am giving the matter to my lawyer."

Kohl's office confirmed the Bild report.

Bild quoted Susanne Keller, a manager at Madame Tussauds in Berlin, as saying that the museum gets its figures from London, and that "I assume Kohl gave his consent."

I took this picture last Christmas at Tussauds in London. Considering what Hitler did to them during WWII the English crowds  weren't all that interested in his wax figure. Most people were  gawking & posing around at the Beatles.

I thought they did an excellent job on the Bush figure. He looks surprisingly lucid with his Daniel Craig haircut... doesn't he.

Uh-oh...

Gotta be careful mentioning Hitler and Bush in the same post around here... or even in the same thread... or even mentioning Hitler at all, lest someone accuse you of Bush-bashing.

Ahem...

Sirs?

In the interest of fairness, I think you should protest this.

The Madame Tussaud's wax Hitler does not resemble Hitler's other photos.
I thought he had brown eyes.

They looked brown in the B&W photos of the time. Hitler had blue eyes.

Why?  I only protest those making the asinine claim that Bush = Hitler, or some moronic version of him.  Your effort to claim that simply putting Bush & Hitler in the same post elicits some knee-jerk public outcry is pretty disingenuous, if you ask me

Madame Tussauds Osama bin Ladin looks considerably older with a familiar smirk....almost lifelike too.

This is one of the RNC's October surprises.... it's a preview of what the beginning of an Obama Cabinet would look like. They also have a photo of Obama posing in front of his Mecca time share eating a deli takeout BLT during Ramadan.

I can't wait to see that one.

You sure that pic is from the RNC. Seems i saw that during the  SC dem primary. Perhaps Bill Clintn had it in the background when he reminded folks OBama was black.

Perhaps it will be in the background sometime when a McCrazy surrogate reminds folks Obama is only half white.

Sure. And you protest even when WWII and Hitler are the subject of discussion, with no mention of your hero Bush.

Your double standard is duly noted.
