Scenes that stand out
« on: July 10, 2008, 07:49:02 PM »
Many movies have them....a scene that just absolutely either makes the movie, or helps to establish that movie during water cooler conversations.  Who can forget the 1st Indiana Jones, and the Arab with the ginormous blades he was spinning around and around, with Indy looking at him with this completely tired look, and pulling out his pistol...center mass.  =)

So, what about the more recent movies?  Wall-E had a scene where he made a smudge on the floor where this little cleanup robot, flustered, had to clean it up.  With Wall-E then putting a smudge on the little robot.  Couldn't stop laughing.  Or in Ironman, where tony Stark is doing all this preflight checking and adjusting for his 1st "flight" in his lab.  All these countless calculations & adjustments, and then the countdown, only to see Tony fly into a back wall in less than a second.

Any new movie scenes stand out in your eyes?

Any old movie scenes that just need recalling?

The bullshit and a badge bar scene in 48 hours. Made the movie and made Eddie Murphy a star.

Not a movie clip, but one of my favorite scenes of Ambassador Delenn from Babylon 5.

I`m so tempted now to do a highly harmful babylon5 marathon now
not sure how it will effect my brain
fortunately my netflix only does 2 disc at a time so it might buffer it enough
probly not

Of course, there are torrents running of all the DVD rips.

I used eSnipe to get cheap copies of all the DVDs off eBay.

I don't think that Netflix has B5 as "watch online".

that`s kinda labor intensive for me to do streaming
even at 6mb the max for my dsl I still deal with buffering and sometime torrent get thier lumped files currupted
the last season of malcolm had most of thier stuff unplayable.
and i like the way netflix makes me behave in waiting for it arrive
lets me smell the roses
I like limitations.
you see all this instant stuff has a tendency to make me spend money
but don`t get me wrong I looove torrents
I can watch british shows
I love my british tele

I don't have any from newer movies, but here are few of my favorites from some oldies
Warning:  The first clip is laced with profanity.

Steve Martin in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles

Marlon Brando makes an offer in The Godfather

Paul Newman is redeemed in The Hustler

Bette Davis displays her singing talent in the super creepy Whatever Happened to Baby Jane

The hard core Marine DI (R. Lee Ermey) in Full Metal Jacket

The D-Day landing in Saving Private Ryan (the part where the chaplain is giving Last Rites on the battlefield has always stuck with me).

The Titanic sinks in Titanic (again, the priest saying Hail Mary's (though not in Latin as he should have) always gets me, as does the string quartet playing "Nearer My God to Thee" as the ship goes down - both events are said to have happened.  People are such funny creatures)

I forgot all about JFK, I loved the sleazy lawyer part that John Candy played.

He was outstanding in that.  In the commentary, Oliver Stone talks about how nervous Candy was to be on set with some of the greats.
