The Nazis marched through Skokie Illinois to rile up the many Jewish Holocaust survivors who lived there.  The Republicans marched through Manhattan to rile up the many liberals and anti-war activists who live there.

That was my point, that was the similarity I found.  The rebuttal of the right wingers, their argument against any such similarity, was about as thoughtful, intelligent, and persuasive as all the rest of their ludicrous dreck:  "Moron!"  "Shit-head!"  "Idiot!"

They used to like "Born in the USA", but Springstein wouldn't let them use it. Interesting, because the lyrics other than the first four words, and not exactly patriotic as Republicans see them.

Best version of the Marseillaise I ever heard was in the bar at Ricks.  That scene still brings a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes every time I see it.  It was pure magic.

The worst thing about L'Internationale is that no one has written decent lyrics for it in English. It sounds great in French, Italian, Spanish, German in Russian, but the English lyrics are sucky.

Once in a Mercedes Club meeting we were talikng about music and I mentioned L'Internationale, and we ended up singing it in four languages at once: French, Spanish, German and Hungarian. No one was particularly fond of the Communists, but everyone liked the song and had learned it in school (I learned it in Mexico: we used to sing it in parties we had at the Turkish Embassy, but only when the Ambassador -my friend's father- was out of town). The same was true for drinking booze.

Note on Deutschland Uber Alles, according to our German teacher in high school:  The title was not meant to suggest that Germany's place was as ruler of all the other nations, but that in a German's heart, Germany must come first.

There are no parallel. Folks out there, the sane ones, on the left are just as turned off by people making these ridiculous claims as they are by the 9-11 truthers. Your problem is there are next to zilch parallels, outside of the twisted rationalizations you've concocted.  Hitler was male, Bush is male --> Bush is Hitler (yea, yea, a more moronic version of course)  THAT's the level of "parallels" you've concocted, and applying such each and everytime Bush, McCain, Republicans, or Conservatives comes up simply marginalizes and lessens the real seriousness of the accusation, when it could be appropriately applied
