Thank you to all members of this board who are veterans.  Thank you to your families whom have supported you and helped you to give to this nation.  I know of a couple of veterans on this board, hopefully others who aren't members will read this also.  Your sacrifices are not taken lightly or for granted, but are cherished as the means of keeping this nation secure.  No matter what your political affiliation is, today I salute you.

I give thanks to all the men and women who have fought and died to defend this country....for those who have suffered from battle fatigue ......for those who carry the brave stories that go unheard....for those who are able to share the stories so that mistakes in war have the possibility of being curtailed in the future.

In Canada  today is Remebrance Day.

I like their idea of wearing a beautiful red poppy flower to show respect for the veteran.

What kind of a nation abandons the men and women who have answered the call of their country to go to foreign lands to "defend freedom" in all its myriad forms?

As Americans, our tradition has been to celebrate our veterans but never to take care of them and give, yes like socialists, everything that they could need or want for having fought on our nation's behalf.  No veteran should be homeless or having to beg for health care for injuries they sustained at home or abroad in wartime or peacetime.

We all love a party and a medal ceremony but none of us wants to demand that our vets want for naught.

The larger point is first hand knowledge always trumps third hand information.

If you find the service is reported as substandard contact your congressman and do something about it.

On Memorial Day weekend of 2004, the cardiac surgical team from George Washington University Hospital headed by  Dick Cheneys cardiologist, performed a single heart bypass on me at the Washington DC VA Hospital.

 I was hospitalized for 3 days before I was sent home.

Hopefully the VA health system will be one of the models for Obamas universal health care plan.
