Virginia Lawmakers Vote to Block National Health Care Overhaul

March 11, 2010

Virginia's General Assembly has become the first state legislature to approve a measure that
would block any federal efforts to institute health care reform.

The legislation passed, 80-17, Wednesday in the House of Delegates, after having already made
it through the Senate. The bill now heads to the desk of Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell, who
has promised to sign it, The Associated Press reported.

Supporters say the move preserves Virginia's sovereignty, but the legality of such legislation is
under question since federal laws generally supersede those of states.

"We never gave Washington the power to force us to buy any products of any kind," Del. Charles
Poindexter told Richmond's CBS News affiliate. "Insurance is a product. They're saying I have to buy insurance."

The Assembly is controlled by Republicans but 21 of 39 Democrats backed the bill.

Thirty-four other state legislatures have filed or proposed similar measures
rejecting mandated health insurance, according to the AP.

Obama & company are morons either that or drunk with power -- OK both. they need to give up on this health care crap and move on to immigration reform so we can shut them down on that one next. I'm getting bored, sick & tired of this HC debacle.

Strangely, I am more sick of your inane and silly opinions.

I recall that when I lived in Ashland Virginia, the VA Bar Association had this ad where they extolled Jefferson, Madison, Monroe and others, and ended with the exhortation "LAWYERS OF VIRGINIA: AT THE FOREFRONT OF AMERICA".

A colleague said after this: "How the mighty have fallen!"

The VA legislature are morons.

So was the far more liberal Mass.  You'd think DC would be listening to their constituents.

The Dems have put themselves (with no help from the GOP), into a rather horrible corner.  Pass this hugely unpopular, fiscally wreckless piece of "reform" legislation, via extraconstitutional parliamentary trickery, and be completely hosed in the 2010 AND 2012 elections, losing all power
or
actually pay attention to their consitutents, don't vote for it, but have egg on theirs and especially Obama's face, as his 1 major signature item, with once super majorities in house & senate, that could pass anything they wanted, and with all the political capital Obama has spent on this issue, goes by the way side......and hyperbolically angering their rabid libera base to no end, in the process

NoBama is in a "catch 22"
If he passes healthcare he loses the independents & Dems get crushed at midterm
If he doesn't pass healthcare his base is furious
I'm starting to think he is more than likely a one termer
He may not even attempt to run in 2012

*snicker*......"more than likely"??  I'm on record, months ago, referencing how he's solidified his 1 term status with this Governmental power grab garbage.  All the while, there's Jimmy Carter, with an ever increasing grin.  Very soon, he may no longer be the worst modern day president this country has ever had.  We'll get a better picture, by the next SOTU

I think he'll run.  The arrogance won't allow him not to.  Unless the Obama circle decides he has some "health issue" that will keep him from running, he'll run.  He'll get trounced, but he'll run.  I don't think it'll be as bad as Carter's loss, but we won't need the Supreme court to step in, at any time

Yeah that would be a REAL victory, a war with Iran. It seems to be an obsession with you.

Then you would get to pay $7.00 a gallon or more for gasoline. You could blame Obama for that, too.

Yeah that would be a REAL victory, a war with Iran.

Yes it would because without Iran...
most of the other problems are eliminated.
Hezbollah does not survive without Iran.
The war in Yemen ends without Iran.
Syria behaves without Iran.
Iraq stabilizes sooner without Iran
The Middle East does not face a nuclear race without Iran.
The list goes on and on
Sticking head in sand and pretending it will all just go away is certainly not victory
In fact in the long run it will cost many many more lives.
Doing nothing is the moral low road

It seems to be an obsession with you.

Yes US National Security is a top priority for me.

Then you would get to pay $7.00 a gallon or more for gasoline.

Yeah you're right, better to have Iran passing out nukes to Islamist than
having $7 gas for a few months.....plus all you global warming nuts would
probably like $7 gas...it may force some of your kooky ideas into reality.

At this point in the Clinton Presidency Clinton was looking like a One term president and the Republican Revolution seemed like a serious injury to his party.

But the next thing that was to happen was Clnton's co-opting the Republican platform, he became a successfull and popular president again.

To complete the formula all we need is a Conservative spoiler who can split the Republican vote , allowing a Democratic win with less than 50%.

Clinton recovered , don't get smug about Obama yet , President Obama has more personal self disapline than President Bubba did and he also has Bill's scret wepon at his disposal , Hillary.

He's also far more arrogant.  He sealed his 1term fate with what he's done to this country's economy, debt, and attempted Government take over of ....pretty much everything.  Clinton had a GOP spoiler in congress, not allowing him to achieve the lofty liberal items he wished to pursue, including a keeping a rational tight pursestring.  Obama doesn't have that stop gap........at least not until 2010
