16,500 more IRS agents needed to enforce Obamacare
0By: J.P. Freire

03/18/10 4:32 PM EDT

New tax mandates and penalties included in Obamacare will cause the greatest expansion of the Internal Revenue Service since World War II, according to a release from Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas.

A new analysis by the Joint Economic Committee and the House Ways & Means Committee minority staff estimates up to 16,500 new IRS personnel will be needed to collect, examine and audit new tax information mandated on families and small businesses in the "reconciliation" bill being taken up by the U.S. House of Representatives this weekend. ...

Scores of new federal mandates and fifteen different tax increases totaling $400 billion are imposed under the Democratic House bill.  In addition to more complicated tax returns, families and small businesses will be forced to reveal further tax information to the IRS, provide proof of ?government approved? health care and submit detailed sales information to comply with new excise taxes.

Americans for Tax Reform has a good breakdown of the bill by the numbers.

Isn't it reassuring that at a time of recession, government will do what's necessary to ensure its growth?

<<yes this is what this is about -- shake down people & small business for green as in mo money for the government to spend.>>

"The government" is the duly elected representatives of the people of the U.S.A., who have decided (a) to spend more money and (b) that every citizen will pay his or her fair share, which necessitates (c) more agents to ensure that this happens.

You sound like a sour-grapes loser - - the folks you voted for didn't want to spend the money and wouldn't have had to hire the increased IRS staff, and you're sore because you lost the vote and the majority of your fellow citizens voted for the folks who looked like they were going to do what you didn't want them to do.  Suck it up, man, and get over it.  You LOST the fucking election.  BFD.

Err, these jobs are to collect the fines for those people who don't buy private insurance...

Err, if the insurance reform selected by the duly elected representatives of the people of the USA requires an enforcement mechanism, as many laws do, and if the enforcement mechanism includes the levying of fines, then the maintenance of a work force big enough to collect the fines is an intrinsic part of the reform selected by the people of the nation through their duly elected representatives.  Stop whining about it.

I love this tact.  So, WHEN the Democrats are soundly defeated this Nov, and Obama is replaced by a Republican in 2012, anything and everything the President and congress do in repealing everything trying to be planted now, is obviously justified, as its being done per the "duly elected representatives."

Don't let anyone catch you whining about it then, nor are you allowed to whine about anything Bush and the GOP did when they took office in 2000, as they were also "duly elected"

I'll take my chances, CU4.  Once the people start to realize the benefits of the health care reforms, Obama will get his second term and the Party of No will get another soundly deserved thrashing at the polls.

Don't bet the farm on that Tee.  The anger in the electorate that Obama and your prescious liberal democrats are perpetuating in their sheer abandonment of the Constitution, in order to push this fascist agenda, is as palpable as your desire to see the U.S. hit with another 911

Think so?

They are not even promiseing any benefit at all the first or second year, not untill the fifth year of higher taxation would there be a benefit realised.

It is good to be the party of "no" some years , perhaps the next three.

The real problem is how unlikely the Republicans are to develop any real excellence before they are called on to replace the Democrats in controll now.

We might have another "anything but" issues election throwing off a lot of incumbents , but not replaceing them  with any better.
