Buckle up.

As I type this, a flurry of activity is taking place within security and financial circles
around the world. Normally, this would signify just another busy day in the hard-working
quarters of modern defence and finance, however this time there is good reason to
suspect that the world may be about to witness something historic.

If not something violent, then certainly something spectacular.

I'm not going to waste time on a long, detailed post. Instead, I?m going to present
the data, the facts and the patterns. Then I?m going to make you make up your
own mind.

First are the financial movements that preceded the security movements, starting
with the CNN Money report on October 1st, which shows an unusual .15 yield on
treasury bonds. Basically, investors are betting big time on "you know what" hitting
the fan shortly.

Digging a little deeper we begin to see something interesting emerge. As of closing
(again, October 1) on Friday, we see some unusually high option volume reported
in Schaeffer's Investment Research supporting this trend.

The S&P traders seemed to be on the bandwagon too.
This video showing massive
"put" options on the S&P for October speaks for itself.

It was only today that it became clear to many that the world economy is actually
decoupling from the U.S, fleeing the sinking ship while it still can. In that industry,
you look out for yourself.

To top it off, the other global capital of modern finance, London, has even worse news.
According to an economic think-tank and Sky News, the UK is on the cusp of a second
banking failure.

Now whether all of these events are pointing towards the same thing or not,
the theme of something big happening soon is replete throughout the media lately.
We should not be scared, nor should we panic. We must take a step back and look
carefully at what is going on so that we can assess what, and where, the real danger actually is.

With the unusual activity happening in one place, we could be mistaken for missing
the events unfolding in another.

That other place is Western Europe.

This week, the United States and Britain issued a strong travel warning to
European-bound tourists. Without offering specifics, they said the threat was
"high" and "imminent", raising more questions than it answered. Yes, this happens
 from time to time and in most cases nothing comes of it.

That's why when Japan issued an extremely rare travel warning to its citizens,
this developing story suddenly became a lot more interesting to me. An official
 at the foreign ministry in Tokyo said that the warning ?was not prompted by
any specific intelligence but by the previous British and American alerts.

Make of it what you will, but the key phrase here is ?unusually rare travel warning?.

So, in summary, we've got massive bets on a bumpy ride ahead by prominent
 investors on the back of warnings concerning imminent terrorist attacks in Europe.

Surely one can't be blamed if his ears XXXX up. We will hear of wars and rumours
of war (or stock market crashes, terrorist attacks, etc, etc)

But rumours aside, something big is about to happen.

There could be something brewing that coincides with our coming elections. You never know what Obama and his terrorist friends might be scheming up.

Who knows maybe the terror network told their agents that during 'chatter' when they hear Europe mentioned that it really means the USA. Take it further and hearing German Airports mentioned could actually mean LAX, French airport could actually mean JFK, and English airport could really mean Atlanta or Dallas airport.

US could absorb a terror attack and bounce back

National Counterterrorism Center Director Michael Leiter

A US security official on Wednesday said the country was capable of withstanding another
terrorist attack and bouncing back, saying Americans needed to put extremist threats in
"perspective." Michael Leiter, head of the National Counterterrorism Center, said despite
recent successes there was no guarantee that intelligence and law enforcement agencies
could prevent every attempt by extremists to attack the United States.

"We're not going to have a perfect batting average and its important that Americans
understand that," Leiter told a conference on intelligence reform.

"It's important that we approach this with national resilience that in fact shows that this
country is not going to be defeated by" extremists, Leiter said.

"We do have to put the threat in perspective," he said.

His comments came amid heightened US and Western alerts over potential terror
attacks against European cities, and after a wave of arrests by France's anti-terrorism
squad.

Leiter said security agencies faced the threat of "low-probability," large-scale attacks
involving possible weapons of mass destruction as well as "high probability",
smaller-scale attacks such as the shooting rampage at Fort Hood last year that left 13 dead.

But terrorist attacks should not be viewed as "cutting into the fabric of our society,"
he said.

President Barack Obama made similar remarks in a new book by Washington Post
journalist Bob Woodward, saying the country could handle a potential attack.

"We can absorb a terrorist attack. We'll do everything we can to prevent it,
but even a 9/11, even the biggest attack ever ... we absorbed it and we are stronger."

KRAMER...can you imagine the economic impact if it happens now?
now during a near depression already going on?
the economic damage was huge last time
and in 2001 we were in much, much better shape as a country financially than today.
if they hit us...God forbid with the same or even  bigger attack...the economy may collapse

It only collapses if we the people let it collapse.

And I'm not talking about bailouts and stock crashes.

I'm talking about accepting the fact that if we are at war we will have casualties.

And if we are at war with terror those casualties will most likely be civilian. The mumbai attacks killed 113 people and injured 300 more.

That many people die on the highway every day.

The federal government can no more protect 100% against terror attacks than the police can stop a robbery.

Doesn't mean they shouldn't try, but it is up to us to not freak out if they fail.

Obama and Janet Napolitano appointed Arif Alikhan, a devout Muslim, as Assistant Secretary
for Policy Development. DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano swore-in Kareem Shora, a devout Muslim,
who was born in Damascus, Syria, as ADC National Executive Director as a member of the
Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC).

NOTE: Has anyone ever heard a new government official being identified as a devout Catholic,
a devout Jew or a devout Protestant? Just wondering?

Devout Muslims being appointed to critical Homeland Security positions?
Doesn't this make you feel safer already??
That should make our home land much safer, huh!?

Was it not "Devout Muslim men" that flew planes into U.S. buildings 8 1/2 years ago?
Was it not a Devout Muslim who killed 13 at Fort Hood ?

I'm not sure anyone is arguing anything differently Bt.  If so, please point to where.  And I don't think anyone is referncing an intended "freaking out" if such an event does occur.  They way I read this thread is from the synical political POV....that of the only thing Obama and the Dems have to "run on", this coming election is to call the GOP every name in the book, and hope that sticks.  Otherwise, nothing short of a terrorist attack will help rally folks to support "the Government" in whatever endeavors are necessary to deal with the "attack"

But i find it strange that you would castigate Obama and company for raising the alert status when the same thing happened in every election under the Bush Admin since 2002.
